Mosin sticky bolt question

i've already seen iraqveteran's video but didnt have the right tools to fix it and i've cleared the cosmoline out of the chamber pretty well with mineral spirits, and that helped but it still is doint this. it's an Izhevsk rifle.

Or, if you know someone who reloads, have them make a few dummies for you by taking a spent cartridge, drill at least 4 hole through them at different places around that cartridge, then full length re-size it, seat a bullet and use? a very heavy crimp. Either option is cheaper than fixing a hole in your roof, or floor, or you. Not to mention scaring the living crap of your " Russian mail order bride. " You remind me of ME.. about 50 years ago and my 1st 303 British.

you have cosmoline in the chamber, when the rounds fire it hears it up and it sticks to the case kinda like superglue from hell. what you have to do it fire 25 rounds as fast as you can, then quickly take a .410 shotgun brass brush and rappidly brush the hell out of the chamber where the bullet? sits when the bolt is locked in. then take the .410 cotton swad type brush and clean out all the nice hot cosmoline, it will destroy the brushes but $4 in brushes for a working rifle is worth it to me!

Same thing with me. I just got my 91/30 last saturday and while it was in cosmoline it was rather ok with cocking it and? what not but I removed cosmoline and now I have the same issues so I took it to a gun smith. I haven't shot yet because I want to do a safety check anyway but this sticky bolt problem is causing the top of my reciever to scratch because of how rought I have to close the bolt you know. I am hoping we just have to oil it up.

I had the same problem u did. I Half assed filed everything kinda and just work it. now the bullets go into battery fine but they are impossible to extract after fireing they are ridiculously stuck in there I haven't seen other people with the bullets stuck the way mine does. I broke my extractor and had to replace it easily? enough for 20 bucks ebay. gun pisses me off but I Like the beast

Most people are very bad about gun cleaning. It just can't be clean, it needs to be literally spotless and well oiled. Old cosmoline is very hard and it must be stripped of all cosmoline to work properly. It's all in the details. I don't own one of those, but if I did the first? thing I'd do is strip it and clean and inspect every single part.

I'm 16 now and when i made this video i think i was 15. I feel that youth outdoorsmanship and sportsmanship(e.i. hunting, shooting, etc.) is severely lacking in society today. I think what most teens dont understand or? appreciate is that the outdoors can offer an outlet and a fun time. Parents and adults need to understand that teens are completely capable of safe firearms and hunting practices. My parents support me fully with shooting and hunting, because they know the above.

I've recently bought a mosin 1930 izhevsk, I took it apart cleaned it thoroughly, without firing it, or running shells through it, it still stuck. apparently the cosmoline and firing it in the past caused a build up in the chamber, carb cleaner? and steam will get it out. that take a 12ga brush hook it to a drill, remove the bolt go slowly put a solvent on it and brush that stuff out of there.. check the bolt serial# and the gun serial# it may be different and be the problem to

oh wait. is the bolt hard to close if you single load it? try throwing one directly into the breach and cock it. and if it closes normal try loading one in the magazine and close the bolt and see if it is hard to close. i just want to see if it is a bolt issue. a magazine issue or an amo issue. or mabey a combination. also are you loading it with? a stripper clip or single stack?

ok one question. is that all the amo you have is that copper wash light ball? i cycled bulgarian light ball white tip with olive wash no problems. some winchester lead tip brass case no prob. and some yellow tip heavy ball brass case without issues. but when i loaded the copper wash light ball on the second round it FTF so i reloaded it and noticed two rounds with the same scratch mark. but only two. and i didnt have trouble locking the bolt down. mabey try different amo if you havnt? done so

hmmm. im at a loss. did you check the tension in your magazine spring? mabey it is pushing the rounds too high in the feed. causing you to force the bolt down. but if that was the case it would seem to me it would get easier as you got closer to the? last shot. the only other thing i can think of is somthing JUUUUST isnt aligned right. like i said ive seen them sticky upon opening after shooting but never hard to close. sorry i couldnt help =(

yah i've cleaned it pretty well after firing, but i guess i could clean it better, to clean? the bolt with #9 on a toothbrush and then oil it with a titch bit of oil.
