Maybe it is because the DVD? has videos on how to fix it. Not that the DVD fixes the laser itself. I hope that is what they meant.

No, I don't know neither. But I believe that a problem so variegated and potentially complex like a complete PS3 failure - a problem that can have many, many different causes - surely cannot be solved by just playing a DVD. The claim of the disc being able to "fix" the laser reader in the console, on top of everything else, is nothing short? of ludicrous.
