No. I´m saying that in comparison to the original, which was in every way -script, direction, production etc - scaninavian (i think swedish), Nolans film is from Hollywood. Even if he is a director from britain, maybe even if he took part in the script: it is an american production. In the oroginal the female part in the film was much muchg smaller. I completely disagree.. the original is much much darker and altogether better? than this Remake. Most importantly the Cop GETS AWAY IN THE End (And we're sparred with another " let me die i deserve it to make you all feel good again "-Scene. In the original Skorsgard SHOOtS the Dog himself from which he gets the replacement- bullet. Skorsgard really is aroused by the Girl that seduces him in the Car and is not just pretending it .. Yeah, he's good. I put perhaps to much hope? on such a director as him and David Fincher. They have to keep challenging themselves though. Can't let up. The next thing I want to see from Nolan is a Space Opera. Maybe he should pick up "Rendezvous with Rama" which Fincher just dropped. Nolan knows how to write a script, and has a lot less projects in the works then Fincher. Though I suppose looking froward to "the Prisoner" is enough.

This was really an unsung movie when it debuted, getting very little marketing, even with Scorsese as director. I can understand, given there were no top tier actors, but what an amazing story and script. Some people have suggested that the movie would've been even better? with De Niro as Paul Hackett, but that'd be a disaster. De Niro, as phenomenal as he is, wouldn't have been right for the part

nobody ever comments of the fact that? in the end, when he goes back to work, he sits down and starts working, the camera then flies around the room, but when the camera returns to him...he's gone! so...he actually quits his job and leaves work in the end (I think)

the script was "Borrowed" by a radio show personality (name escapes me...sorry, I just looked him up). So I heard Martin was sued for it. But this was one of the best films. top 5 ever for me. I didn't know what? "Steam Punk" meant though I've heard of it before. I would say this is very Steam Punkish. Tim Burton would be interesting for a remake but I don't want it remade like I don't want Soylent Green ruined in a remake. Just leave Brilliant alone. no disrespect to Tim Burton.

The region 1 dvd is pretty damn good for such a little known film. There is this very documentary. a commentary and deleted scenes (I think about 6 or so). The commentary sadly isn't "live" in the sense that the contributors are all in the same room talking together but is still an insightful listen if you're a big fan of? the movie.

Is this from the region 1 dvd? I`m from the UK and the region 2 dvd is very limited/ expensive & has no special features.I still have it on VHS video but wondered if it was worth buying a multi region dvd player just to own this great movie on region 1. Also released that same year was John Landis similar `Into the Night` & the following year Jonathan Demme`s `Something Wild`(another? great yuppy nightmare movie!).I love all these films.

@halfvulcan Agreed. Another movie that has the same kind of "bad luck" theme, is Oliver Stone's "U Turn"? with Sean Penn. U Turn is not a comedy though, (although I do find some parts in it, to be hilarious haha) but its a good movie. Its like a dark, suspenseful, and violent version, of After Hours. If you like this movie, you should check out U Turn.

I? just finished watching this film the other night. I have to say, it's the best Scorsese film before THe Departed that I have seen. The ending, which from what I have read was debated, is one of the best endings one could imagine for a film like this.

At 0:42 to approximately 1:00 is "The Delights of the Poet" from 1912, and this is my very favorite piece of art on Earth. I would love to have a large print of it for my wall, but I have not had luck finding a copy anywhere. As far as I know, this work is still? privately owned by someone in New York City and has not been displayed since 1991 when it was purchased. Does anyone know where you can get prints of this beautiful work? Money is no object...nah, just kidding.

i am 18 years old, and i only watch REAL movies from the 90's era.. now.. i have started watching movies of? the 50-60's era (like 12 angry men) i can only tell : movie industry has died, wtf : 2012? inception (was OK but overhyped),,, the only real movie that has come out lately is american gangster (2007) i really hope there will be a time that we can enjoy movies like a bronx tale, donny brasco, pulp fiction, godfather, goodfellas, and so on.. :(

No really. Part 3 is a porker people. Stop your internal dialogue trying to say otherwise. Woefully acted. No plot. No drama. Just desperados trying to cash in on? something that WAS great. Shame on Pacino too for selling his soul. Even Bobby Duvall turned it down because he knew it was a shameful act of greed and desperation to make a very unnecessary Part 3 to it's already flawless precursors. Such a shame to ruin such an impeccable legacy with such forgettable, unconsidered nugatory pap.

This is a very overrated film. The original is superior to the remake. The original is exhilarating, snappy and the energy doesn't stop until the end. Everything about the remake is? overly elaborate and silly? and the whole film and it can hardly be taken seriously.The dialogue is poor and the film is terribly overlong. The original film is historically? important and accurate. It manages to say more than the remake in a? much shorter time.

I'm not? that old (22) and I'm not crazy. The new movie called The Thing is not a remake, it is a prequel and a rather good one. But The Thing from 82 is a classic and it scared the living hell out of me, it achieved what the new movie could not do and that was scare me so much that I can't go to sleep. I have The Thing from 82 in my movie collection, but I haven't watched it more than once and that was about 10 - 12 years ago. The dog kennel scene = truly terrifying. It almost made me cry.

i love the original the thing, and please don't hate me or flip out, but I thought that the prequel? was a decent film. Anyone that went into The Thing 2011 thinking that it was going to be a masterpiece, or that it was going to surpass the original, is an idiot, of course it's not! However, I thought they did do some things very right, a good blend of practical effects and digital cgi, a strong female lead ( THANK YOU!!) and just a nice splatter thriller. So I enjoyed it
