As a child growing up in Dublin during the 60's and 70's and seeing Disneyland on TV I was enthralled. At that time it may have well been on a different planet, never mind? in a different country. In 1999 I managed to make my first trip to see Disneyland, along with my kids, and I will always remember the magical feeling I had inside once I walked through the main entrance to see Main Street leading to Sleeping Beauty Castle.

I love this show. So glad when they released it onto DVD. I ended up buying both black and white and colored version. My sister and I would stay up late? to watch Zorro. Sometimes we almost got into trouble since it was past our bed time, especially with school nights. We'd pretend to go to bed only to turn the TV back on. I always hated when they ran the marathons all night because I wouldn't be able to watch them all. Thankfully we were able to record it onto VHS.

I do recall that all the principal characters, including Zorro (the good guys) spoke with Spanish accents. The bad guys however, all spoke American English without accents. Surprising since most of the bad guys were as Spanish as Zorro himself. All of the bad guys spoke flawless American English... The series is strictly a 'Spanish' affair it seems because almost no 'white Americans'? appear (even though most of the cast are played by white Americans of course).

I? loved! this series as a kid; heck, I'd probably still enjoy it. It's too bad it's in the vault. The dvds themselves are about one-hundred dollars a season.They should certainly consider bringing back classics such as this; they should take it out of the vault and re-produce them for a re-mastered set! Walt Disney had always wanted to make a film based on the Oz stories. In 1954, when the movie rights to various Oz books became available, Walt purchased them. Soon, scripts were written for a movie in "Widescreen, color, the works.." But for some reason it was never made. Pretty incredible how much they hyped it.

Walt HAD intended to produce "The Rainbow Road To Oz",? but, like most of his other "dream projects", it was ultimately abandoned (the fact that "THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB" ceased production after the 1957-'58 season in favor of repeats for season four, and the studio allowed the contracts of every "Mouseketeer"- except Annette- to expire, those were certainly factors in the decision to quietly end the project).

I'd say that this is obviously a bit being done to raise awareness and promote that as-of-yet-unmade concept of a Disney Wizard of Oz film. Disney's seeming obliviousness to the basics of movie making and studio work make that obvious. While some of the mouseketeers might have had roles, I imagine most would go? to more well-known actors of the time. Disney enjoyed the kids, but I truely doubt he'd let that friendship surpass common sense in regard to what works and what doesn't in making a film.

Even though the weekly Disney TV show changed its name over the years, because my siblings and I had started watching it in the early days, we just always continued to call it "Disneyland". Of course, naming the show after the part itself (open in 1955) and using the names of the various "lands" that it was divided into, served as promotion to get people to actually visit. Which I REALLY wanted to? do, and then actually did do in Sept. 1960 when I was 6 - the source of much excitement.

I've been on this invetive ride a time or two in those days and sometimes, it would stall and you'd wait awhile and keep seeing the animatronics continue to move as you watched so sometimes you could have more time to see the Disney detail. One reason it wasn't built was because it was deemed far too costly? to build. Walt's original plan also included 2 to 3 layers of tunnels under this "city" as well for vehicle traffic. The model on TTA at Magic Kingdom is only 1/3 of the model shown here. The rest was lost or destroyed sadly.

John Hench describes his design for The Plaza Inn, which replaced the Red Wagon Inn. This was supposedly Walt's favorite place to eat at Disneyland.
It is said that the reason these two restaurants were called "Inns" were because they were stuck "inn" between Main Street And Tomorrowland.

The original IS back, as of August of 2011, sort of. The fountain is gone. The 3 minute Offenbach number? is too. So is the "Let's All Sing Like The Birdies Sing" audience participation segment. But its close to the original and so welcome after their horrible mistake of using Gilbert "Garbage" Gottfried's big mouth to RUIN the Disney classic for years. The Tiki Room is back to near its original peaceful beauty, and that's enough for us.

It was a joke, based on an Urban Myth. You know the Myth that Walt's Severed head is cryogenically frozen under Sleeping Beautie's Castle until the day they find a cure for Cancer. I then made the assumption that if Disney being the innovator he was, was able to build these computers (which for anybody at the time was an achievement in themselves) then by the time of his death his team must have made a super computer that could? sustain his frozen head. Again it's a joke :{p

The Tiki Room (Under New Management)? at Disney World has a small fire last January and Iago was destroyed. Rumor has it that when it reopens in a few months, it will be the original show again. Hopefully Disneyland will follow suit and bring back Country Bear Jamboree (perhaps in California Adventure).

That is fantastic idea. However, something tells me that Disney is going to continue to stretch the most beloved attractions out between parks (like the original Tiki Room only in DIsneyland, and? Country Bear Jamboree only in Disney World) so that those of us who love and miss the older rides will have to make two trips instead of one.
