The reason that the banks were decided to make all of the sub prime loans was not because the gov't forced them to , rather it was seen as an easy way to make a buck becuase you could just sell the loan on up the chain. all you have to do is notice the fact that 80% of sub prime loans came into existence after 2003, and that most of those? were for refiniancing, not original home purchases.

I will look that up but do you know what that would do to high perfromance computer components for one thing?? gold is actually used for more than jewlery. It is a very good conductor, low reistance metal. I know this is somewhat tangent to the discussion but if that was the case there would be rampant inlfation in gold dependent materials among other things. The value of the dollar has been in decline since the Fed was created. In the 80s they realized that if they didn't manipulate the price of gold they would have to raise interest rates and no would want to borrow if interest rates went too high. By manipulating the price of gold, they kept the value of the dollar artificially higher than? it should've been. The Fed has acted criminally in prolonging the inevitable, thereby making conditions worse than they should've been.

actually, the banks have had power over the government since the Federal Reserve was created. Most people? aren't understanding the situation. This isn't the fault of a Democrat or Republican. It's the fault of Lawrence Summers and Robert Rubin who initiated central bank manipulation of the gold market through the sale of commodity futures and manipulation of the interest rates in their relationship to gold. It's very complicated to explain. Bill Murphy and Chris Powell are pretty good experts.

well they will now but its gone back and forth, banks have leverage, govt had leverage for other reasons. the FACT is that laws were passed to force banks to make loans to unqualified people? banks would have otherwise denied. banks said 'ok, if you'll buy them back with GSE's'.. banks arent stupid and they hold the money. they know how to make an unfavorable situation work in their favor and they were invested in development too. its not cut and dry. during Clinton banks had much less power.

The main difference is? that non-profit companies are still subject to the price system and therefore profits and losses. A non-profit company cannot just bleed money/resources indefinitely and wastefully. Also, it is subject to competition. So, if the service it provides is not good enough for the amount of funds it receives, the share of resources that it controls will shrink, to the benefit of competitors who are doing a better job.

It is funny that you mention camping? and hiking, etc. because my friend who loves the wilderness recently went on a 3 month camping trip in a national park or one of your public lands. Since he has been up there, he has been harassed by park rangers that he doesn't have a permit to stay out in the "public" forest. Reminds me of the King's forest and how you need permission to use it. The concept of public land isn't as freely open to the public as one might assume.

I think an insurance company would make a killing on nuclear power. Considering that the worst nuclear disaster in American history led to zero cases of death and illness, I don't see why the insurance company would have to pay all that much. But why is it fair that investors, etc. are paid niether for productivity nor effort, the workers produce things, yet others get paid for it. Well, the amount of CO2 the human population breathes is about 9% of the amount released by humans through other means. Of those? "other means," cars make up 22%. So clearly, breathing isn't as bad as traffic, but it's not a trivial amount of CO2. Now of course, the carbon that one breathes had to be taken out of the atmosphere by some plant or animal which you then ate, which makes breathing carbon-neutral, unlike cars. Algae-based fuel would put the cars on par with breathing in this way.

Hooker, being a chemical company should have known the dangers. I worked in various industries doing materials science so I was either regulating or being regulated. I know the reality of regulation whether it? is environmental, product safety or worker safety. Although I am now retired I continue to do this type of work for free.
