Those were the days when people were good, we didn't have to worry about crime and perverts. It was the early sixties but it seems like so long ago. Their orchard was destroyed to build houses on.

The 60's were not perfict. The musicality of the performers was generally better than it? is today. Today if you go to a concert there is a heck of a lot of lipsync. You are listening to a recording, and if it is live, there is a lot of autotune. Not all, but most are like that. In the 60's they didn't have that kind of tecnology. I grew up listening to these folks, & Dylan, Pete Seeger, & the like, & I agree that these were? real & pure. But if you think there is nothing to compare today, you haven't listened to Dawes perfoming an original song "A little bit of everything". Soulful, real, & uncomplicated. And there are others, just not on main stream radio. WYEP in Pittsburgh is an NPR station, and streams their broadcast. I'm 14, and I get a lot of ridicule now for what I listen to, apparently it isn't "cool" or something. If this isn't cool, I don't know what it is. Besides, this is so much better quality than stuff now! Why do people have to get famous now for singing songs that are mostly autotuned? Can't stop playing this? video as it causes my heart to lurch with memories of the sixties and seventies. So sad to hear of her death and the end of an era. The ones where Mary is wearing the white dress came from the show credited as 1965, the? rest ,where Mary is wearing the other dress ,were credited to 1966. Im only going by that info. The lyrics could stand on their own? as a powerful piece of period poetry. The PPM musical adaptation of this traditional Irish ballad, in my opinion, captures the true passion and feel of the message far better than most traditional Irish renditions that I have heard. PP&M did this with a? lot of trad songs...they took them and made their own versions...never the same as the original song, but interesting in their own right....some people gave them a lot of crap for it, but really if you compare trad songs from the British Isles to Appalachian trad songs, you will see that a lot of them got muddled in translation and changed about a bit ie version of The Cuckoo by Doc Watson
