I can get the 15-85 for ?649 and a? 17-40 f4 L for ?699 after rebate and considering the hood that goes with the 17-40 they are basicly the same price. If I am to sacrafice the focal length and IS is it worth it to go for the L? In terms of colour, saturation and contrast is it so much better? Thanks.

I agree. Digital Review floods YouTube with all their off beat comedy style videos. All of their videos are short on substance and all about getting views. Cameralabs is one of the best by far. They take things seriously and cover most? of what people want to know when looking up a review.

Well digital rev has its place - I often think that Kai is very very bored of promoting cameras/ lenses - the worst the review the more bored he? is. He wants to be a proper media star. Perhaps he should move on to a HK based version of Top Gear? Camerlabs reviews are much like reading a magazine on line and as such are very good.

Hi Gardon! :) I have a? question regarding your this lens. First is, does the auto-focus speed the same as L-lenses? :) And lastly, would you recommend this lens for aircraft photography (e.g. Landing Aircraft / Hi speed aircraft shooting) than the 18-135 kit lens? Because I'm planning to buy a 60D with 18-135 kits lens. Maybe this 15-85mm lens would be a nice choice considering it as USM the same as L-lenses. my brother got this for me about the time that it was released in China and looking at it now, the price is cut in half... Brother got? it for 10 000 (EEK) or more (EEK is the currency of Estonia)... it's a nice camera. The videos you can make look good and sound good. The built in mic worked better than i thought it would be :D Lot's of cameras and mp3 players have had the mic but alot of them haven't worked that well

Great review on Panasonic DMC-FZ35. The camera is impressive. The video is so correct about finding the best? digital camera being subjective. There are websites that can help with finding a digital camera to meet ones photography needs. The site that I have found to be helpful has been digital camera ratings dot net. The site divides the camera levels into beginner, amateur and professional level cameras.? It certainly helped me.

So didn't watch this review all the way through then because if you watch at 6.53 onwards you will hear him say you can zoom while recording? plus what camera do you think he was using for this review? because it is the Lumix FZ 35/FZ 38 and from 6.53 he is using it to do the videoing and he is zooming in and out ;-) hope this helps you change your mind as it can zoom while recording.

I love my E510! it's as dependable as any camera could be and a worthy investment for those who need more than a snapsot camera with a limitless set of variables for the discerning photographer. The camera is awesome.Well worth money.The very bad thing I found is the AA during winter or cold..well, they are good during 20+C conditions.I use rechargable,and 200-300picures I get normaly.Sometimes I keep them for months inside, and they work no problem.The VERY bad thing is during winter, or when it's cold, I get like 5-10 pictures. You need to keep the batteries worm really, or they just don't work. I haven't used regular during cold,so I don't know? about that, but rechargable-BAD in cold

Colour edges (CA) are normal with all lenses and are correctible via software if they've an issue. Zoom lenses tend to be worst than prime lenses even expensive lenses? ( the Zeiss 50 1.4 is a good bad example). Canon's new range of DSLR's beginning with the new Canon 5D MK3 also auto correct - I fully expect all new Canon DSLR's to have this feature - Nikon DSLR's already have this across the range - so Canon have been a little lazy (not for the 1st time) up till now.

I have this lens mounted on a Canon? 40d and it performs very well. Some of the (mild) issues when using this lens don't appear on a cropped sensor but do so on a FF such as the Canon 5D range. All lenses have issues - even L lenses and almost all are fully and quickly correctible via software such as the FOC DDP software supplied by Canon when you purchase any of their DSLR.'s. I don't use the lens often which is a shame - I purchased it to use on 35mm film SLR's some years ago.

Just? remember EVERY lens is multiplied by 1.6 on your camera, so if you want something wider than your 18-55mm, you need a focal length smaller than 18mm. The Canon 10-22mm is a fantastic choice.

That was my question too. It comes down to this. The f4- L lens is sealed the 17-55 is not. + 1 L-Lens. The 17-55? is I.S. the L-lens is not (big + 1 for 17-55). Constant F2.8 over F4 (big plus 1 for 17-55) much better for low light. I won't bother you with the math but factor in the price and it's a pretty easy choice. I just bought the 17-55 and love it!

Thank you again. To start, my plan is to buy the Canon T2I body only, the 17-55mm, and the B+W filter with the purpose of doing some filming for independent shorts and music accompaniment vids. Unless, you would recommend getting the camera? kit with the 18-55mm for circumstances where I might not want to risk damage to the 17-55mm. BTW, what additional lens might you recommend? I opted for the Canon 450D. My reason being although the megapixels is higher on the Sony,it has far more noise in darker scenes when comparing images. Some people love their photographs to be pure. Photoshop just adjusts your images to what ever you want. You didn't really capture the image then.? You just changed an image. There's a sense of pride I suppose.

I don't think a 60D would even fit into the hands of a 12 year old. A 60D is a mid range DSLR camera with a heavy price tag. It isn't a toy, and it isn't a good starting? point for entry level photographers. If you're getting a 12-16 year old their first DSLR go for a 1100D.

@photolitherland You should learn how to use the camera first (picture profile). D200 is 10Mpix, D7000 is 16Mpix. So if you use kit lens, on D200 it's ok, but it will be "blah" on D7000. Go and spend more money for a PRO lenses.? D7000 with Nikkor 17-55/2.8 makes razer sharp images.

I know that this is a late comment, but (correct me if I'm wrong) any lens that runs on Nikon's 35mm cameras will work on their DSLR variants. The even cooler thing is that legacy lenses will only be manual on Nikon's lower-end consumer-grade? cameras, such as the D40-D3100. The Nikon D7000-D3x all have AF motors which are, I believe, compatible with Nikon's legacy lenses. I hope this helps, if you still want to be 100% certain you can always look it up or contact Nikon. Hi Gordon, I currently? own Canon gear, however I am seriously contemplating switching to Nikon, why? Because Nikon allows the use of their old lenses, although completely manual but really nice lenses nonetheless, they are also inexpensive, while the Canon full frame cameras do not allow that without using an adapter. I almost always use the M on my Nikon ;D If you have trouble with the fucus, on the lense, you can turn it, not the zoom, but behind it. Turn it, and the zoom is better. In front of the camera its a wheel you can turn. turn it:) Its hard to explain in english, much easier in norwegian, but the camera takes pictues faster, and slower due to that. Turn it to the right, and? the it takes faster pictures, if you have too slow, the picture gets blurry. Anyone who can explain it better?

VR means Vibration Reduction, no further explanation for that needed I suppose. DX stands for the sensor size, DX is a cropped size sensor (1,5x or 1,6x crop at Nikon, don't remember which one of the two). So if you have a 18-55mm lens it's equivalent 27-82,5mm. So if you use a DX body (Amateur dSLRs such as D3100, D5100 etc.) you have a DX (cropped) sensor. When you use a FX (fullframe) camera, you? have a fullframe sensor. An 18-55 is really an 18-55 on these sensors.

Wellll...not really. If you look through a true 35mm lens on a film camera body, it's a bit wider angle than what your eye really sees, so there is some wide-angle distortion in that sense. All that happens when you mount it on a DX camera is it takes a crop of that. So you get a crop of a wide angle lens, giving you a bit of wide? angle distortion, even though it's capturing the area of a 52mm lens. Also I made a mistake in my previous post: I meant 50-200, not 70-200.

I personally see no purpose for an 18-70 because the 15 mm isn't that big a jump from the 55mm that your kit lens will grant you. However, I got a 35mm f/1.8 and that was a great lens. My only regret was not getting the? 50mm. The 35mm isn't really wide angle and as such was a bit awkward for framing. If you're doing food photography, the 50mm would be better for you. I don't think you should pick up the 18-70 or 28-75 lenses; you should go for a 70-200 or something; those go for around $180.

NO! Buy a D3100 or D5100. The D60 is very crippled, not much feature. If you insist, you better of getting a D40. But trust me, get a D3100 or a D5100. Unless you're planning on buying a very high end, very premium glass lenses... then it's a good deal. I'm stuck with D60 because I've spent all? my money on some serious excellent quality lens. Remember, between bodies and lenses, it's lenses who make great quality pictures.

Hi, my work just gave me a d60 to photograph with 1 question: Can I permanetly set the image size to 640x480, the "fine" "normal" and "basic" sizes are way to big for the job I'm doing, and its a pain? to resize every picture from the menu options. The D60 does have options for 640x480 (and smaller) just not anywhere, where it allows you to set it as default. Only in the editing options is this resizing feature found. @vainparasite the Nikon d60 was my first SLR camera for Christmas and would like to answer your questions, yes? there is a fully auto mode where advanced controls like iso and White balance are taken care of and basic controls of a point and shoot camera are left to you, also, I find that if you are starting off on dlsr cameras then the d60 is an excellent choice for beginners to intermediate photographers :)

Hi im looking for a dslr and have seen a d60 2nd hand locally with 18-55 lense for £200. Are you sure that's not the noise reduction doing a dark-frame subtraction?? Most cameras will do this for long exposures and it'll match the length of the original exposure. So a 30 second exposure would have a 30 second NR process afterwards.

I agree with Gordon. I have the 15-85 and the 55-250 IS II myself and they complement each other pretty well. The 15-85 is really sharp at nearly all apertures and the 55-250 zooms really, really far. The 55-250 IS II has a max aperture of? f/4 at 55mm, and is fairly sharp wide open at 250mm (from my experience). Get one or the other, you'll be pleased. If you need big-time reach, go for these lenses: 18-200 18-135 Or if you want a lens (not so) similar to the 15-85, get this one.

the 17-85 would seem to be a good fit for you, but the 18-135mm would be even better if? you need a longer zoom reach. The 18-135mm is similar quality to the 18-55mm; if you want better quality, I'd go for the 15-85mm. If however being able to zoom closer is most important, why not complement (rather than replace) your 18-55mm with the 55-250mm? Check out my Canon lens guide at cameralabs . com!

@cameralabs Hi! As a high school aged girl, I'm obviously? on a serious budget. I have the Canon EOS Rebel T3 and the kit lens (the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Type II Lens). I want a replacement lens that can be used in a variety of situations. Things I want in my new lens: -17-85mm approx. (zoom end is more important than wide-angle, no lower than 85mm please) -very!!! good image sharpness even at telephoto end -aperture equal to or (preferably) faster than f/3.5 Would you recommend this lens?
