I always had problems shaving my neck. I have very thick and strong facial hair, that grows in? any direction at my neck area. I always try to shave with the direction it grows and not against it to avoid ripping the hair out and causing infections and pimpels, though it seems practicly impossible at my neck. Is there anything I can do better aside from good cleansing and preparation? I use simple shaving soap and a 4 bladed gilette. greetings

Through trial & error, I found the best way? is apply a great cleansing cream before I jump into the shower where I rinse it off. By the time I come out, my face is clean and the pores are open, ready to apply shaving cream !

This is the best tip to avoid irritation & bumps right here - use an old toothbrush after you shave & very gently brush? the areas that you shaved in the direction that you shaved them. This helps the hair to grow straight out of the skin instead of letting the hair curl back & grow into the skin which is what causes shaving irritation & razor bumps.

I mix my lather, fill my sink w/ scalding hot water & splash it on my face 30 times. After I'm finished shaving I splash with progressively colder water 30 times, put on witch-hazel (the bad, 14% alcohol kind I'm too cheap to replace) & put on a drop of Nivea,? Sensitive Post Shave Balm (cheap & smells reeeeally nice). What's shaving oil for?

I use a normal, regular bar of soap, face scrub from time to time and it works great. But? my skin is rather oily, I must add. What does not work for me is soap like 'Dove', where they claim that it 'creams' or remoistens the skin. I wash my face really thouroughly before the shave and I use a hot towel for several minutes, maybe that's why I never had any problems. After shaving I rinse really well with cold water. I never witnessed any problems with this routine.

mantic, I've got this great oil that works wonders on the neck, but its something of a chemical quandary, and something that I have not been able to figure out even as a student of organic chemistry (just yet anyway). Its the #31-0 preshave oil from Kiehls. It loaded with essential aromatic oils of rosemary and eucalyptus and others, yet its completely water soluble! You can shave right over it then rinse it completely clean!? Organic oils are big and non polar, how can they dissolve?

I have big problems with my neck area. But the wierd thing is the problems completely disappear if I use a Mach3 cartridge razor and not a DE, I have tried several different DE blades, different razors (including the slant bar) and tons? of different lathering products and techniques. But I always get extremely irritaded and can never get a close shave. But if I use a Mach3 its no problem at all, I can even shave against the grain without a trace of irritation. Could my skin be allergic to DE? :(
