There have been men throughout history who have been unable to take the vow of poverty for the ministry. They cannot put Christ ahead of money. Every minister, no matter how? good their intellectual writings who owned slaves compromised in this area, in order to increase thier wealth, (Mammon). The two greatest challenges for men, are sex, and money. It takes a FURIOUS discipline in prayer, word, ad worship to have self control in these areas. Obviously King, Edwards, etc, did not h

This is an amazing sermon. Blessings to all who hear and are encouraged to make better use of their time for the sake of the Glory of? God.

The consequences for shame. Shame for Christ and His Word in our wicked times has some serious consequences. First, the reciprocation in the consequences. "Of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed" (Mark 8:38). Christ will reciprocate the shame. If you are ashamed of Christ in this sinful age, Christ will not stand up for you in eternity which means you are doomed for eternity.? Second, the return in the consequences. "When he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels" (Mark 8:38

The circumstances in the shame. "In? this adulterous and sinful generation" (Mark 8:38). Honoring Christ and the Scriptures must be done in a wicked society. Christ is not talking about failure to stand for Him and His Word in a sympathetic crowd but standing for Him and His Word in a very unsympathetic crowd. We get no exemption from this anathema for shame just because we have some rough circumstances.

3. The Principles of Shame (Mark 8:38) ? The conduct of shame. . Two areas of shame are condemned. First, the shame for the Savior. "Whosoever... shall be ashamed of me" (Mark 8:38). To be ashamed of Christ will doom the soul. Many, however, in our age, want nothing to do with Christ. Second, the shame for the Scriptures. "Whosoever... shall be ashamed...of my words" (Mark? 8:38). If you will not honor the Scriptures, you also doom your soul.

The Savior in service. "Follow me" (Mark 8:34). Service is? focused on Christ. To serve Him, you must follow Him and be where He is; otherwise you will not be there to serve Him when He wants your service. . ? The sacrifice for service. "Whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it" (Mark 8:35). This speaks of sacrifice.

1. The Principles of Service (Mark 8:34,35) The selflessness for service. "Whosoever will come after me, let? him deny himself" (Mark 8:34). To follow and thus serve Christ requires selflessness. ? The suffering for service. "Take up his cross" (Mark 8:34). The cross speaks of suffering in service. If you are going to do your duty for God, you will sooner or later meet up with the cross of suffering.

The conclusion in the condemnation. "Thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things? that be of men." This denounced Peter as being carnal. His interest was in the flesh not in spiritual matters. A carnal person?one whose interest and appetite is for the things of the flesh?is not truly interested in a theology that embraces the necessity of Calvary. They may make emotional films about the crucifixion, but they do not speak the truth about Calvary being essential for salvation.

The command in the condemnation. "Get thee behind me, Satan" (Mark 8:33). This command shows how evil? Peter was in rejecting Christ's teaching. This rejection of the cross was a Satanic doctrine.

They portray Christ as a martyr on the cross but do not speak of His death on? the cross as necessary for salvation. That is a crossless creed.k.

The Creed in the Protesting (Mark 8:32) "Peter took him, and began to rebuke him." Peter opposed the cross. But a crossless theology is a great peril for the soul of man. Leave out the cross and you do not have any salvation for sinners. A crossless creed? leads to eternity in hell. Most churches, however, preach a crossless creed?that is, they do not believe the cross is essential.
By: Mr1stcor13. on 31 Jan 11, 03:27:32
The Character of the Protesting (Mark 8:32) Peter had no business protesting to Christ. In his protesting, he showed two dishonorable forms of conduct. ? It was insubordinate. "Peter took him [aside], and began to rebuke him." Christ was the Master, not Peter. Yet, Peter acted as the superior? one here by taking Christ aside to counsel Him. Peter, like many in every age, thought he knew better than God. Such people think they know better than the Scriptures.

Third, the slaying. "And be killed" (Mark 8:31). This was the crucifixion. On Christ's schedule was a crown, but before the crown was an agonizing cross. Fourth, the supernatural.? "And after three days rise again" (Mark 8:31).

1. The Cause for the Protesting (Mark 8:31,32) ? The particulars of the teaching. Christ taught the disciples repeatedly about the coming crucifixion experience, and the disciples simply would not listen. First, the suffering. "The Son of man must suffer many things" . Christ was headed? for some dark days in Jerusalem. But this suffering was just the beginning of greater suffering. Second, the scorning

We can just agree to disagree because I could and would go on with this forever. Take care?

I understand & appreciate you attempting to be intellectually & biblically honest but you were playing fast & loose with the text. I am sure you didn't mean to. When you compared spiritual slavery spoken of by Macarthur to man to? man slavery that was completely inaccurate. (No Comparison at all) Comparing the New Testament idea of slavery to Edwards timeline and the European/American slave trade was completely inaccurate.

Once again I am not trying to convince you of anything. The Lord couldn't convince the Pharisees, Paul couldn't convince the Jews, Moses couldn't convince Pharoah. Now I am not the Lord, Paul, or Moses neither am I implying you are the Pharisees, Jews or Pharoah. What I am saying is convincing you is not the standard of truth. I hope you? agree scripture is. If I am wrong being wrong with Sproul, Macarthur, Piper, Grudem, Mohler, R. Kent Hughes, Lawson & Boice is good company to be wit
By: nightwing427. on 18 Nov 10, 02:10:53
My job is not to convince you of anything. The Holy Spirit convicts, converts and consecrates. Besides how you view it does not matter. How I view it does not matter. Response is none of my business. Biblically your position can not be supported by scripture. The noted theologians I mention categorically denounce your stance. I submit to you again. If you will not hear? me then hear them. I could send you all of their writings on the particular subject.
By: nightwing427. on 18 Nov 10, 02:04:23
I disagree with you. I have not tried to do anything. I have just stated scripture. Exodus 21:16 (HCSB) 16 "Whoever kidnaps a person must be put to death, whether he sells him or the? person is found in his possession. You are adding to scripture. I will send the scripture to you in Hebrew and you can grab a lexicon or an interlinear bible and read it. It does not just limit itself to the same person. I will agree that I can not convince you

though I do not see the Bible slamming slavery to the extent that you do, the ways in which the Bible does condemn slavery are enough for me: that the slave trade is sin and injunctions for masters to treat slaves with love. Perhaps this is not Edwards, but there are historical accounts of the rare families who bought slaves to spare them hardships and provide them a home until they were ready live by themselves; I do not see this as sin. Good luck.?
By: Lion3Lamb. on 17 Nov 10, 23:56:09
in certain places (for example, even as I expect for you to reply with a new justification for your position, Exodus 21:16 is talking about possession of slaves by the same person who did the kidnapping, not someone else who might have wanted to spare the slave? a worse situation). I'm sure you can find a way to respond to all my statements, but they'll also probably be like before: failing to convince me when I strive to be intellectually and Biblically honest. And in fact, even

You should? note that I share your repugnance toward the American slave trade and the abuses that occurred therein, but my point since we began is that Edward's possession of slaves cannot be proved to be sin on scriptural grounds, which you try to do. I've enjoyed your arguments: your wealth of knowledge has enlightened me; unfortunately, much as I would to come your conclusion that a sweeping of all aspects of American slavery are denounced by Scripture, your proofs seem stretched
