Original Portland Snow Car Crashes 2007 Posted by: porterdereks
Video duration: 267 seconds Global video hits: 59977 This is the full length video I shot from our apartment building in January, 2007. The steep hill on SW 20th and SW Salmon Street in Portland, Oregon was covered in snow and ice. The snow storm was not predicted and left a lot of people unprepared for the commute. Nevertheless, people still attempted to give it a try. Morons. Hi ScottishFX, You just need to thin your varnish down as Veniards sell a thinner as well, just add a little at a time to your varnish to get it back to? what it was...So you're not doing anything wrong... All the best Davie
By: ScottishFX. on 22 Feb 12, 22:12:15
Hi Davie, To make it easier, i put my varnish in a small glass tub with a brush/lid. But my varnish ( veniard ) seems to have gone thicker and is much harder to apply? evenly without lums and bumps. What have i done wrong?

I use Clorox and i dilute it with water. I dip and swirl for 5-10 seconds and? then remove and Dunk Them in cold water with baking soda mixed in. I have been doing this for a long time and no i have not erased the dark band.
By: door2yourheart. on 20 Dec 10, 23:11:10
@yourmotherFer @yourmotherFer Does this method also bleach out the dark band from the quill? It did when i? tried it over 30years ago. Maybe i did it wrong though.

Great buzzer Davie. Any chance you could tie a butcher? I know a very easy and fast way to get stripped peacock quills. Get yourself a small glass? pan, and some regular old bleach. Fill the pan half way, take 1 eye stick for a test and learn. Submerge the? quill holding the butt end and swish it around in the bleach, it only takes a few seconds to burn of the herl, take out and rinse. I have been using this method for years and i do about ten eyes at a time. Lasts me several months of tying.

Hi yourmotherFer Again thank you! Ill definitely try it! Best? Regards, ~David
By: yourmotherFer. on 04 Dec 10, 16:03:34
Yes your absolutely correct. But make sure you take it out rinse it as soon as the herl is burned off, so you don't damage the? herl. Super fast and easy!
By: TotallyFlyTying. on 03 Dec 10, 19:17:40
Hi yourmotherFer, Thank you for that! Ill give it a try. I? take it the bleach removes the fine herl? Thanks again, Best Regards, ~David

Hi TotallyFlyTying, To get a smooth body on your buzzer it would be better to remove all the fibres on the quill, I do know some peacock feathers seem to be easier than? others to remove the herl from the quill. All the best Davie
By: TotallyFlyTying. on 12 Aug 10, 10:58:43
Hi Davie, Im having problems stripping the herl off the peacock. I'm going against the fibre but I can't? remove all the fibres. I've done both sides. Will this matter to the tying of the fly? Many Thanks, ~David

I love the look of? this fly, I normally use glo-brite 8 for my buzzer cheeks but the holographic tinsel looks like it might have the edge.

Where are you Kardall? They should sell the hooks as scud or? shrimp hooks. Mustad, Tiemco, Eagle River and Partridge as well as Kamasan sell them so you should be able to find them somewhere. Good luck!
