My grandma told me the kindness of a British soldier coming to our small town and showing her a little picture of his daughter to her. What the soldier later found out about my grandmother - her father died during the invasion of the Netherlands. During and after the war he would often send her chocalates and gifts on her birthday. She used to write back calling him "papa".She has never? forgotten him and often go to England to lay a flower on his grave every year til her death in 2008.
