I didn't know early trance was like this though, traveling back to early 90s, I find trance a bit harder, but what you say makes sense if you think going from the 80s to the 90s sound progress :)

sorry to? be a stickler folks but this ain't trance or trip hop nits a rave era house track, trance even of this era was much more harder and more psycadelic and trippy, the trippier end of the house spectrum during the rave days was called progressive house.

trance/breaks. Trip hop was not invented yet (except for? Massive Attack), freestyle maybe at the time, not really acid without the 303 IMHO, not really house (though it might has slipped by genre nazis), def. electronic. 120+ bpm is not really slow (except by dance music standards). Hip hop beats are actually slow. Early trance WAS like this. Listen to the 1988 pure trance version of what time is love by the KLF. Obviously the genre evolved, but you need to learn the roots.
