I just? started trying pipe smoking, i've been smoking cigars for quite a while and love them... i just cant seem to get into pipes though. Maybe i am choosing the wrong tobacco? what would pipe tobacco people suggest if I like cigars like Montecristo No 2's, Pardigas shorts and maduros?

I smoke both cigars and pipes. While I think pipe tobacco is undoubtedly more flavorful, cigars last longer can taste good and? give you a thicker smoke. If I just feel like relaxing with friends I smoke cigars, once you find a good one you will start to enjoy them more and branch out. Of course I love my pipe too, just seems like I need to smoke about 3 bowls to get the same thing as a cigar (which I dont).

I like pipes more then Cigars but if i want to me and a few friends can grab a pack of Dutch Master Cigars from the local convenience store run by the Hindu's and we enjoy those very much while Pipe Tobacco has to be ordered Online or the lastest tobacconist is quite far? away.

cigars vs. pipe cigars: best type of tobacco to smoke, great flavor, no setup, different flavors based on the region and wrapper, smoke stinks like a dead beaver, expensive as hell. pipe tobacco: best bang for the buck, setup and cleanup, variety? of flavors, tongue bite which i hate, stigma of being a old fart but by far the best smelling smoke of all tobaccos except for hookah of course. i smoke both, if i had to choose...cigars hands down but i enjoy a pipe with my nightcap.

I'm a big cigar smoker and an occasional? pipe smoker. I would recommend the Padron 1926's for a relatively expensive cigar. For a cheap ~$8 I would recommend the Casa Magna Oscuro or the La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial.

I tried a $6 Rocky Patel from the tobacconist that I get a lot of pipe? tobacco from. The Rocky Patel wasn't very good. It took about five ot ten minutes to get past the almost vomitting stage, and from then on it wasn't too bad, but I'd rather have spent six dollars and gotten two or three ounces of good pipe tobacco instead.

new to posting but this caught my attention i just started smoking a pipe but i have smoked cigars for 5 years and to be honest i dont find much of a difference besides the length of time between a pipe and cigar. but i do find the tastes between pipe tobacco and cigars are very similar, as for bad cigars there times were u can get a bad draw from a cigar or it might be dryed out but i have never had a cigar taste like? charcoal , but i mostly smoke drew estate Liga Pravda and acid line.

The biggest problem with cigars is they're quite expensive to get in to. You have to do a lot of experimenting with different cigars until you find the right one. But finding the? right one you likeis definitely worth it!

i wish i could, but as far as i am aware the only pipe magazine is pipes and tobacco, that is a great a magazine by the way, i wish somebody would put a definitive how to book that we pipe smokers could use as reference, it seems like every hobby has one of? these "bibles". just for curiosity how many of you would be interested in purchasing a book of that sort. or if it already exists let me know so i can buy it. if not i may consider writing one, doubt it would get published though, these days.

i have smoked cigars for over 15 years, i? was even a contributing columnist for a few very popular cigar magazines in the 90's. my view on the whole thing is that it is much easier to obtain a good pipe tobacco than it is for a casual smoker to get lucky with a good cigar, that being said these days i enjoy my pipe more than cigars in general, with one exception the padron aniversary line of cigars. they are the ultimate in what tobacco can become, some of you pipe smokers try one and respond.

Sometimes I also smoke cigars. My favorite ones are named "Piper's" and you may imagine that they are made of pipe tobacco. :) When? I was younger I used to smoke "Independence" cigars that you can get at each gas station in Germany. They ain't that bad but I still prefer the other ones. In Singapore I had a "Monte Christo" and I still have a "Cohiba Siglo III". But I don't think that I'm going to smoke it. Cheers Lars

You were good on some points, and missed a bit on others. For one, you surely scorched the foot of the cigar while toasting it. It's called toasting, as you slowly heat it, keeping the foot of the cigar out of direct flame. With a torch lighter, depending on flame size, keeping the cigar 1" to 3" from the tip of the flame is sufficient. When you put the cigar directly into the flame,? as you did, you overheat the tobacco, scorching it and hurting the initial draw's flavor.

CAO cigars are amazing. I recommend you try one if? you haven't. Try the flavours. I recommend the moontrance because its my favorite. It has a nice earthy/almond and nutty taste very mild. Along with a vanilla touch from the wrap.

I would get a cigar punch for those. I know you can use a cutter but a punch? leaves the end in place and not take off the end. Look for a "cigar punch" either online or your local smoke shop.

Actually, Bic lighters use butane, just like the butane that is used in your torch lighter. Butane is colorless and odorless. The importance of highly refined? butane is that it will not clog the clog-prone jets in a torch lighter. These jets are very finicky, hence the need to use highly refined butane. I agree with you on the Zippo's, they use lighter fluid, which will impart an odor to the tobacco, if you draw in while lighting. Keep the videos coming. There can never be toomany cigar vids.

i would definitely agree with you on this point i see the relaxation part in pipe smoking and although i kind celebrate with pipes as well but normally these times of celebrations lacks the atmosphere of concentration and slow reacting to the ritual of smoking apipe like the tamping and so,,,me my self very rarely enjoyed a cigar as well which is way more? easier to invest time in than the pipe,,,however cig's are an experince i will never go bk to"oh i pray for tht" thnx for thoughtful comment

Ciggs are not in the same company as cigars and pipes. But cigars vs pipes is a debate worthy of consideration. I look at pipes as my way of relaxtion, and cigars as a way of celebrating. In my life, and I imagine in the lives of most, we need to relax a lot more than we need? to celebrate. So my pipe smoking is done regularly, while my cigar smoking is done very infrequently, usually in good company.

Good insight. I have to agree, spice is so overused. La Gloria Cubana cigars would be another example of this. Padronare considered full flavored but in my opinion not powerful. They are well balanced. I say most Padrons do need to mellow in a humidor due to the high ammonia content(a by product? of good cured tabacco). Mild cigars are great in the morning or as a starter. Keep smoking.

Here in South Carolina we like cigars out in the evening humidity. We set unwrapped cigars out an hour or two before lighting up to gather in the moisture. After settling down with a Cusano 59 on the back steps and enjoying some 1983 Gugelheimer Gottesacher wine I found that? this cigar was OK, not a whole lot of flavor but enjoyably mild which a new smoker would do better with. The ash stayed on for two inches before dropping off again. It burned evenly and another two inch ash stayed on.

I love me? some 5100. My only regret is that I didn't buy more. Same here. That or Squadron Leader. Thanks to you, I ordered 5 ounces. I love cigars. I always have, but over the past half year or so, I've gotten into them more and more. I visit the local cigar lounge every other week. So yeah, I enjoy my stogies.

Feral Flying Pig is a Liga Privada (Drew Estate) and it's a figurado/perfecto shape. The Uzi is a Drew Estate and Joya de Nicaragua collaboration (and around a 2 hour smoke). Good comment. How many cigarette smokers are content with one or two fags a day? Such a person, if they exist, wouldn't even be rated a smoker! And how many cigar smokers would be happy with that many cigars in a week or more? Quite a few, I should think. I don't? smoke as such but I love the smell of cigar smoke, and after a puff or two, will happily let it burn down just for the aroma; but cigarette smoke is nauseating.

Tobacco is a known carcinogen, its harmfulness is dependent on exposure, in both method and amount. Inhaling is much worse than puffing, 4 cigars per day is much worse than one per day, and smoking at all is much worse than watching TV, using a cell phone, or drinking water from a plastic bottle. The increased risk of cancer posed by smoking < 2 cigars per day is statistically insignificant.

An extremely interesting and enlightening video. I, too, thought that cigars were made by simply rolling more and more leaves together until the required thickness was attained. Now I know better. It really is an art and a science in itself. I don't smoke myself, but I can certainly appreciate the incredible skill needed to make cigars much better now.
