my 8 yo son has started having tics. he started blinking really hard and then it moved to his eyebrows then his mouth. now he? stretches his neck out and up like a turtle and shrug his shoulders. he says his body does it and he cant control it.....im waiting to get health insurance for him that he should get from the state. it is in the mild states right now, we actually dont know if he has tourettes yet or just a tic disorder....

I hear too many stories about doctors dismissing real problems. Like my younger brother almost died of pneumonia because the doctor kept telling my mother it was just? a normal flu. I used to have tourettes to a similar degree as Sam and I was lucky enough that mine became much less and now it's only? noticeable occasionally. I used to really try hard at school (because of one particular kid making fun all the time) to not do any tics, and when I got home I'd almost have a seizure on my parents bed then my mum would give my neck and shoulders a rub. Eventually it became easier to hold in, until I stopped needing to concentrate on it. It's great having supportive parents.

If you go onto any website that describes TS - it will list? the criteria for it, if you think you fit into the symptoms then go get checked out. I believe you have to have tics both motor and vocal for one year before they will consider it to be TS.

Well although I have better reasons for my lack of belief in a god, the idea that a supposedly loving and kind god would allow this and put people through this? is contradictory. According to Christian beliefs, god could cure all illness in the world simply by deciding it to be so. If I were god, I would take away all illness and suffering from the world. The fact that your god has not done this means either that I am more kind and merciful than your god, or he simple does not exist.

I have not seen your tics so it is unfair for me to make any sort of diagnosis, but I think that if this is really affecting your quality of life, talking to a neurologist? is worthwhile. If this is something normal that doesn't bug you, there's nothing a neurologist will do for you. Good luck!

Great video:) My? tics include the "muscle stretching", neck jerking and when it's severe I get a vocal "throat clearing". I have a problem where I'll feel like I have to start shaking my body and then I feel all compacted and stretched unless I do it. I can't control it and a lot of times people sitting next to me will think I'm weird because I'll just start shaking and they'll stare at me. Thanks for this. That is a great description of Tourette's. One thing that really kept me from being diagnosed for so long is the misconception that the tics? are "involuntary". You know as well as I do that people describe Tourette's as involuntary, and you know just as well that you do them voluntarily, because you HAVE TO. The urge is involuntary, the motion is not.

I think keeping positive despite your disability takes time. There has to be a reason why we are the way we are though. Every one of us has their own story to tell and? struggle to fight. Once you get older it's easier to go from "Why me?" to "Bring it on." The insults start hurting less and you can use those to work for you.

After about 5 years on meds, my TICS have crept back to about where yours are in the video. In my case, it was the other problems with the 'spectrum disorder' nature of TS. In particular, mood disorder--kind of like bi-polar, but really what's known as TS 'rage attacks'. Last year,? riding to Sturgis from LA and then back again non-stop, I had to go without my meds for a couple of days at a crack. The meds allowed me to see my behavior for what it was. Flying into a rage, I could only laugh.

How long have you had tourette? I have had it since 5 or 6, and it has gotten a little better. Though sometimes it can get as bad so I allmost can't breathe beacuse of some bullshit that I have to "close" my lungs every time I breathe. So it comes and goes, with different ticks and shit every few months, but I will give you the advice to take it slow when it gets really bad. At? least, thats how I survive.

I got my tic from? the gameboys, this was long ago. However, over the years I haven't done it. It's somewhat controllable so long as I don't think of it. However when it's brought up I have the urge to jerk my head back, but I don't. Thank goodness it hasn't affected me at school but I probably do have other syndromes I'm partially not aware of.

I once had it for awhile when I would play gameboy my eyes would feel weird and I couldn't see. I eventually got the tic. But over the years they magically went away...sorta..I 'feel' that it's? there but I can control it. The instant someone brings up the word or I think of it I start to feel weird and have the urge to jerk my head back but I don't.

That isn't necessarily true. There are disorders that are almost the exact same as Tourette's Syndrome. TS is hereditary not all? tic disorders are.

Everybody who doesn't know who Bianca Saez is should search on Youtube, 60 Minutes Tourette syndrome and it usually pops up. TS really is weirdl like that, when doing something completely enjoyable, relaxing or takes alot of concentration the tics kinda vanish but comes right back when you stop doing it, as a matter of fact they kinda get worse after doing something. That is so funny i was watching Oprah and Michael J fox and dr. oz were talking about parkinsons and they showed this clip were they went skating and how MJF loves to skate and he had the hardest time putting on the skates but when he was skating it was fluid and constant I guess and he was fine. Kind of like me I have stuttered ever since I was very young and I have always had a trou le starting conversations and just talking? in general and when I sing it totally goes away. Someone e-mailed me saying that they didn't have friends because they had Tourette's. My answer to that might be a bit harsh, but try to be open to it. People want to be around other people who make them happy. Someone who hates themselves and is constantly reminding them why their life sucks doesn't make anyone happy. Trust me, it's not because you have Tourette's Syndrome.

I have a slightly different POV. For me, Tourette's DOES include random, loud? extremely embarassing swearing. I hit myself, I jerk so much I can barely walk at times. And idiots at school love to laugh when they think I can't hear. But they're just that, idiots. I do not exactly appreciate people who fuel ignorance about TS. I do appreciate people who speak out about the truth, like you lotz of curlz, but in my opinion, mockery doesn't help. It does a lot worse to people than swearing.

I am doing a little bit of research on Tourettes, and I was looking for some examples on YT to help me get a better understanding. I found it frustrating running into some of the vids that made fun. And a few times, I couldn't really tell if they were real or just a few buddies looking for an excuse to yell bad things out loud. So from my POV, it is really? annoying, all the fake videos.
