You might have had the same problem I did at first. You can just tilt the memory card in and then clip the tabs closed -- you really have to push the card into the slot so that it sinks in 1-2 mm, and THEN tilt it down so that the clips really sink into the punched-out slots? on either side. THEN it will boot up okay. I almost returned the memory card because it didn't work at first (blank screen and no boot, like you had). Hope that's the problem. Good luck!

Nice build! I use one of these systems as a home file server,? and recently picked one up real cheap on eBay. (I had to replace a few popped capacitors to get it running, but it was CHEAP.) I decided to fancy up my repaired eBay special, so I cut the slot in the side for pain-free CF access, added a second antenna connector hole in the opposite rear corner for a 2-antenna wireless card , and upgraded the fan to a silent SiLenX IXP-34-12. That's a piece of shit.... USB ports only put out 5volts.. not only are you using a USB, you have the goddamn fans in the wrong direction... Try using 4? 120mm fans rated at 12v @ .25amps.. 1200rpm.. run them in parallel and connect them to a 12v 2amp AC adapter... I feel like slapping you in the face right now...

I have a 'real' laptop fan cooler stand/fan i got on sale for $10. Helps for sure but I still put a small fan aimed above and that makes everything perfect. I just used to use some books to prop up the laptop before so now I have the stand laptop cooler pad which is ideal. . The vid idea is great! I never even knew about laptop cooler pads until i saw the one i got on sale.? Figured I'd try it, expected it to be junk but make a better stand than the books I was using but turns out it works!

The 20gb ssd linux (I want to say that it's a 40gig) can be upgraded but while both the 1000 and the 1000H share the same chasis, the hard drives are different. 1000 - Has? a mini-pcie input 1000H - Has a SATA input (More options) The 1000 already comes with a hard drive with no moving parts, but its significantly slower than what I have, for example.

Another little tip: Instead of tweezers, use a magnetic screwdriver to keep the little screw on the tip when you're putting it back in. It helps when you're aiming for the screw hole and with both avoiding dropped screws and retrieval if you do? drop it.

I haven't immediately noticed much in battery difference... I did notice a major difference in the following: 1) Heat (much cooler without a traditional? HD) 2) Acoustic (no more spinning noise/vibration) 3) speed (boots up much quicker and apps just respond when you click rather than lag behind). Overall... I think its worth the upgrade.. Asus Eee 1000H - $600 32GB OCZ Core - $250 I still paid under $1,000 for a kick-ass laptop. You really can't beat the battery life on this thing.

There are some bigger batteries available for the eee. I don't know if there are any official ones. I got one off ebay for 30$ + shipping - that lasts about 6 hours (10400mAh) at? normal usage, it elevates the machine quite a bit, but 6 hours is a striking argument. I think there are normal sized 6600mAh ones too. I've never seen you that excited over a gadget :D. Unfortunately the ndiswrapper stuff doesn't work so well with kismet *caugh*. Great to see more budget mini notebooks though.

I didn't, but only because I read in forums, etc, that the "standard" firmware and broadcom? drivers did NOT work with this version of the hardware. I had no reason to believe the Ubuntu forum users were wrong, so I just went with NDISWrapper.

It does get fairly warm. Warmer than the Eee for sure. I haven't figured out if it's due to CPU scaling issues? (I did supposedly apply the fix for that), or if it just runs hotter. I have a hard time with either of the little computers on my lap, they're so small. Usually I have them sitting on the arm of my recliner. But yes, definitely hotter than the EeePC 701.

Yea, I never understood people's beef with Vista for being slow. I ran it on a 1.8Ghz single core processor, with 768MB of RAM, and it ran and multi-tasked MUCH? better than XP for me. I loved it! So to be quite honest, I'm not surprised at the performance you got. A lot of people just seem to have jumped on the bandwagon without experiencing Vista first-hand. There are a number of distros built specifically for netbooks. They look great, and soem perform even better with the limited specs

I have this computer. It's super fast. But I HATE it. It rashes every other month, so I had to pay an extra $150 to buy an external c.d. drive, and I have? to constantly re-load the software. I don't remember where I got it, but it is the very first version of the Acer Aspire One, they do not make this version any more, they've since updated it with a? 10" model and put hard drives in them rather than the SSD, which turned out to be rather slow.

Bullshit - the people at Best Buy are idiots. This netbook is built for web browsing and light duty? work like e-mail and word processing. The only thing you might consider is the keyboard size depending on how much typing you'll be doing. The Aspire's keyboard is good, but for full-time typing, look into a 10 inch netbook.

I need a comp for an internship I am doing for a semester away from home. I have an iMac..but I didn't want to risk anything with it since I have roomates. I also have a acer laptop w/ a broken screen (too expensive to fix) that brought me to the assumption that this would be the best for me. Windows and linux truly are different. The windows version has larger storage capabilities with a mechanical hard drive. Linux has? flash based memory and runs much faster. I feel Windows is the best choice simply because it is much more widely used

Here I talk about and unbox the netbook I bought earlier, the Acer Aspire One A110 8GB. Previously I had an Asus EEEPC 701 4GB which I sold, and I must say this is better. The AAO will set you back £199. I was tempted to get the Acer Aspire One A150 but it was £30 more (but you get a 120GB HDD Drive) and i couldn't afford it (without being broke)
