Equipment (listed with approximate retail cost): Lees specimen container large ($10), Lees specimen container small ($8), Lees 2-way airline control valve ($1), Hagen Thermometer ($2), Silicone airline tubing ($3), Oceanic BioCube Mini Hydrometer ($12). Total cost for acclimation set up roughly $35. Well worth the expense to properly acclimate expensive salt water fishes.

If you? have to ask, you might not be ready to care for a 16 inch Shovelnose catfish. But the answer is you will have to use a bucket or spare large tank and a drip siphon.

@Checkz3 there can be a variety of reasons, it can be that there was a? flaw in acclimation ,it cud kept in a sw aquarium , it got picked on byy other inmates ,or had a disease. :) hope dis helps

The technique has two main drawbacks: 1) The open bag may not float due to relative weight and current in the aquarium, 2) adding water with a cup is not ideal since we want to do fine dilution at a drop-by-drop basis. Using the described technique is not impossible but highly tedious and stressful. For a small price you can get a better acclimation? device, search youtube or Amazon with "Doradon acclimation".

This step is important because the pH of your tank and the water in the bag with your fish may also be different. You'll want to slowly add water from your tank into the bag to adjust that pH. I would not recommend skipping this step, especially for fish that have been shipped to you. The? longer the fish is in the bag, the higher the ammonia levels will be due to waste from the fish. The combination of different pH levels, ammonia concentrations, and temperature can prove lethal for a new fish.

Great questions! Yes, it is the same process, but there are a few things to consider: 1. If you have? fish currently in your aquarium, they may not be compatible with the wild fish. Some wild fish may be aggressive and attack other fish. 2. Fish coming from different environments may spread disease and parasites to one another. 3. Fishing may be prohibited at different times of the year and some species are protected. It would be best to check with local Department of Natural Resources office.

Some general possibilities include: 1) the platy was diseased when purchased, 2) the aquarium was not properly dechlorinated, or 3) this freshwater fish was put into a saltwater aquarium. In some areas of the US (Atlanta and Boston, for example) it is necessary to use a chemical dechlorinator such as our ACE? Eliminator (Carolina item# 671939). We also recommend talking to the company that sold you the fish to see if they can offer more information or even replace it.
