Its an excellent question, I should probably make a video about it. While total amount of light is indeed decreased, the coverage of the media is the same. (And yes it is cone shaped). Wider apertures allow for more? light to enter the lens, but the coverage of the media is the same.

Hi, I know apertures control light entrance and depth of field, but, I want to know How the light rays enters through the lenses, are they in cone shape, and if so, I would think (but it's not true), that decreasing the aperture, would remove some light rays coming into the sensor, thus reducing the quantity of informarion at the border of the? image... how does it works??

It all depends on the lens. Sometimes the picture doesn't come out very? clean if it's wide open or small opening. I have never gone over f/18 and lower than f2.8 on a macro and f/1.8 on a prime lens.

I recently bought a fully manual camera as I was totally fed up with my Sony point and shoot. However using the supplied manual was tedious and confusing. I stumbled across your tutorials and have to say that they are? brilliant. Your explanations are crystal clear and very easy to follow. While I watch I play around with the camera and have become really confident adjusting different settings. My photos have become much better and I never use auto anymore.

It is the opening that allows light in depending on what type of equipment you are? using, if it was the diameter of the lens entrance, aperture would never change.

Did I got something wrong? or did you? Please check @ 2:17 I thought that aperture equals focal lenght divided with diameter of entrance size, not the iris diameter.
