Do you repair these as a business? Ive already run thru all the? trouble shooting steps and my ccfl back light is the problem. 100% the lcd is good. Its a toshiba satelite U205-S5034 12.1" Its flickering for about a week now. I blew $40 for a new flyback inverter from national parts and its still doing it. Do you have a website... or on eBay maybe... (lol thats not on the bad boy list at the better business bureau) How much to replace my back light? I can send you just the display screen) Thanks

Wish I could help you but I honestly don't know. I'm gonna guess that there is a gap between the layers inside the lcd panel and the? light is not properly distributed throughout the display.

Great video, all seemed to go well, but I must have done something wrong. I tested the new backlight after? soldering it to the original connector and it worked fine - nice and bright. But after reassembling everything the screen is bright at the bottom, barely visible in the middle and completely dark at the top. It didn't seem like there was any room for misalignment, but could the backlight be out of alignment with the plastic diffuser, or is it something else?. Any help would be great.

It is most likely either a bad inverter or a bad bulb. I would try a replacement inverter first as it is way easier to replace since you don't have to tear apart your screen. If you do need to replace the bulb then I will says this - "proceed with caution". lol This video shows the general steps involved and there may be variations based on different laptops. Some bulbs will? require soldering. All the best,

Hello! Great Video! I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ381P. My screen is dark but you can slightly see the image? if you look closely. When you connect the laptop to another monitor you can see it everything perfectly. This means i have a backlight problem right? And if so, then is this how my backlight can be replaced? There are many very light gauge metal bits that fit together somewhat neatly. I have good 3-d perception? which allowed me to fit all this back together properly, but a few good photos might help with re-assembly if you are afraid of forgetting where all the screws go- oh ya, I had about 6 screws left over, but all the important ones are in place, and the picture on this oldie but goodie is now well lit and colorful... No little jumpy zaps either, definitely the lamp was causing the problem.

I had to solder the new lamp in place, it was then difficult to make it fit back exactly as the one I had taken out. Tricky, but you have to really observe how the puzzle fits together. Hey, this was listed as a used lamp in the ebay sale, but by its packaging and the extra? lead length to solder to, I think they sent me a new lamp! Lucky!... I put things back together just enough to connect all plugs, and I tested, welcome to a nice, bright perfect (almost) screen!

Thanks for the? video, after replacing an inverter, no improvement was seen, the screen was jumping- just slightly, and the video would cut out if you left the brightness turned up. I was working on a Dell d 600, and the display was similar enough to yours to get me going... Lucky I had ordered a $8 (including shipping) used inverter and lamp pair from Ebay So I dug deeper into that 'impossible job to finish without screwing up' zone as described by many doubters...

I'd echo this. This a great video but taking an LCD apart like this isn't for the faint hearted and while the odds are in your favour that you could fix it, the odds are also that? the screen won't be 100% crystal clear either. Dust, hair, fingerprints all show up against a white (back)screen. Unless your lamp has totally gone to the point where you can can barely see the screen, I wouldn't attempt it and depending on the price of the repair I'd look at buying a new screen.

Nice video, just my advice is to place the chip and matrix on table open by 180 degree, then place the backlight panel on chip, clean all stuff from dust and only then flip? over the LCD matrix. :) P.S. I did all of this successfully from first time before seeing this video :D

While CCFL lit (cathode tubes) lcd tv's have life expectancy of about 60,000 hours, LED backlit tv's have theoretical expectancy of 100,000 hours or even more. That is 11 and a half years of continuous 24/7 work. Since LED backlit tv's have been around for only few years, no one really knows if they will actually achieve that long life. Hi Jarcomtech. I have a compaq laptop, and the screen broke. I could still see the stuff on it, but half of the screen was static from the crack. So I got a new screen, same model. But now, I can't see anything unless I shine a flashlight on the screen (I'm guessing? the new screen's lamp is broken). Try to connect an external monitor if there is any signal. If there is no signal that means could be something with motherboard. Also re-seat? your memory and power it again. If these suggestions do not work then it could be your video card. Now, if you have signal on the external monitor then it could be your inverter or lcd bulb is bad... but please let me know so that I make additional suggestion

Hi sawmassacre13.. could be that the bulb on the lower portion of the lcd screen got broken. But? first check to see if the connection of inverter is tight. It could have gone lose as well due to the drop. 2nd check the inverter.. you may want to visit my site laptoprepairguide(dot)us and search for "how to test inverter board..." good luck!

this is by far the only fix for a dark screen... firstly the user has to confirm if it's a mainboard problem or the screen itself; an external display will tell you? this; also, make sure the switch that tells the laptop the screen is down hasnt become lodged; also, make sure its not just the brightness; also, make sure you test running on mains; if it's none of them, often it's the connector that links the inverter to the mainboard; an inverter isnt expensive though so it's still worth trying

PART 2: the LCD inverter cable could that be why the inverter blew because when i first took it off after? it blew. One of the two LCD inverter cables wer actually squashed between a clip, the state of the cable now is its got a mini slit through it you can hardly see it if that was the reason the inverter blew in the first place would i be able to use that cable again or is the whole LCD useless now? or can i do a cut and shut with electrical tape or something, i would love some ideas PLEASE!!!

hello there, i would really appreciate it if you could help me with a lil prob...... I replaced my LCD screen for my lap top due to my damaged one... the new screen was working fine for like half n hour until it went black. I thought maybe the new LCD was faulty so i swapped it with the old one and same problem so? im certain its the inverter. The invert doses not convert the power it convert DC to AC and can increase the voltage. Power is current which you can not alter it the result of V/R. There are two plugs ONE on each end not two as you said, You end with a trim as you call it but never took it of in the edit you missed it... Auto brightness might be on, if the screen is completely blank look for a function key with monitors on it and hit FN? + that and see if it comes on. If its only 3 weeks old have it replaced or fixed under warranty.

Yeah thats a Vixia 10 on a tripod, it's kind of a pain? and I have another video from this set but it isn't rendering properly. I have some C945 and C144 transistors that I salvaged from old circuit boards. Would either of these work as a substitute for the BS170 ? Thanks for the instruction video. I put my backlight on and the radio wouldn't power up and after much searching I discovered? one of the crystal pins had never been soldered on and the radio only worked because the original foam was pushing the pin over to where it made contact.
