Awesome clips! When we were there, I was far to afraid of? them to get close. I thought for sure we were going to see someone get taken down when they thought they would get really close like the elk were tame or something. Bet that phone cam wouldn't be much defense up against those antlers.

I loved the compilation. I also loved how the females were watching to see the outcome of? the "battles". Estes Park is always a "fun" place during mating season. To all those that think they hang around Estes year round, they don't. They will show up alot, but the true chaos is during mating season. Also, when they are on the golf course, remember they were ther first, not the golf course and they don't exactly understand human property lines. And hunting keeps herds healthy.

It's? great that this hunter shared the magnificence of this animal with us. What I don't get is how someoone can see this and get a hard on for killing one. I'd like to see one of these hunters try to hide with that thing on his head. Yes, it is preferable that you don't eat factory farm meat, but hunting means killing another living breathing feeling animal and being directly responsible for that shortened life span. Why should that give someone a rush?

Well, yes. You are right about that. I'm implying that that happens naturally. And that maybe humans should keep our? noses out of it. I suppose it's complicated. But then again, I would MUCH rather have people hunting than humans destroying forests and polluting oceans. So while it's strange to see hunters petitioning for protected parks, it's a lovely gesture. Anyhow, I'll be in Colorado soon, and I wonder if I'll see any of these guys.

The way I see? it is as long as hunting is performed strictly for consumption it can turn out to be a blessing in disguise. What a lot of animal activists fail to realize is that animals that are hunted don't go through as much stress as an animal in a slaughterhouse, plus you are less likely to waste food as you will pretty much kill only what you need. Bounty hunting is a much different story though...

Yeah man, my thoughts exactly. I'm no wolf expert, but let's say for the sake of conversation that a pack of wolves kills one animal every 3 days. That's? 122 animals per year. 88 packs in Idaho, that's 10,736 elk, deer, moose, etc. In Washington our biggest herd of elk is the Yakima herd at 3,000. With those numbers it's no wonder that the elk population of Idaho has been decimated.

No kidding, maybe have a special tag drawn? or something. The wolf count in Idaho at the end of '08 was 824 individuals in 88 packs. That's a lot of wolves for an area that small. My old Idaho hunting spot up near Elk City in Unit 15 has had bad hunting since the re-introduction and that was a major breeding ground for 4 different herds! See what happens when people make laws for places when they live so far away and know not exactly what happens?

It's really the only sensible thing to do, have controlled hunts on them. I have nothing against the wolves, but they are a major predator and we need a check and balance situation with? them. Hunting would be that method to control them. Plus they would also start to fear humans and not so eager to come down into ranches...maybe. Like one time i was out hiking like i usually do to spot elk on this mountain right behind my friends cabin (and i always see elk here)and i was only about a few miles away when i heard a huge group of wolves right across the ridge from where i was. i decided to climb to the top of mountain and i did not see a single elk :( and that was surprising to me. the only elk i did see was a small group down very low on the highway. so i agree with you and the others, i think? there should be a wolf hunt.

What a great slide show! As far as the wolf situation. I grew up in Idaho and remember the wolf re-introduction and many of us knew they were going to bred like rabbits, and it has happened. I live in Washington now, but went back to Southeast Idaho for elk this bow season and was very surprised to see wolf warning signs posted on my favorite hunting spot and guess what...I seen no elk that? trip, didn't even hear a bugle. We need controlled hunts on wolves to manage the overpopulated pack.

Hi adamfkimball, A rib? running through a hackle like you said would last longer but to be honest I have caught many fish with a hackle tyed like this and I have never had one come loose..The fly that I used a lot with the hackle wound up like in the video was a Griffiths Gnat a great pattern when Black Gnats are around, I caught plenty of rainbows at a fishery I used to work at and these were fish averaging 2 to 3 pounds... huh that's a pretty cool twist, I tied a couple the other day from a recipe I found on the net, just a dubbed body sans hackle and just a CDC feather as an under wing, I use 1 feather folded over into 3 thicknesses 'cause I'm a tightwad, seems to float fine in the water butt, so it should? do well on the river, no hackle lets the body sit a bit lower in the water possibly giving the impression of an emerger or one that has got stuck in the surface tension... Tight lines!

probably because if the wolves aren't killing of the elk (not to mention domestic animals and livestock) there are more left to hunt. So yes, hunters are actually most supportive of what will help boost the elk? (deer, moose, etc) population which includes taking out their other predators.
