FEC engine 433 pulling the Federal Railroad Administration (DOTX217) Inspection Car. Luck was with me today as the car stopped right in front of my job and the crew stepped off and took some measurements of the rail underneath the train. Then they climbed back on board and headed south towards Ojus, and on to Hialeah.

Even though they are self-propelled, by being pulled by a locomotive they are? classified as "trains" and get better track rights as oppossed to a maintenance vehicle...this way they are able to keep moving and do not have to pull over for other trains. MOre tracj inspected per day.

North on US Hwy 1 over the bridge and I see the train just going under. Turned onto Dixie Hwy to the right, and there at my right was FEC Engine 102 for the pace through town and north until the VFW Crossing. This one was really moving and then went faster.

@Trains3000 Hi, Yahoo groups has a FEC'ers Group. I moved from there, yet they have a good number of folks that post as trains go by their areas. Still you can find a whole bunch in the early am, then one about 6, 9 & noon. Then about 3:30-5 pm one at 7. It would get pretty busy there with north and southbounds sharing one set of rails. Many? times I would look at the FEC group to see when one left Miami or Ft Lauderdale and estimate how long before hitting Hobe Sound.

Yeah it only takes one rain? up here to soak dirt/rust on the rail and then it gets thrown by the wheels onto the cars and locomotives. Here in Nashville, CSX cut all the jobs that washed the locomotives and what not. Now they are all dirty as can be.

Florida has a lot of sand and rain. So they get rain washed and almost never get muddy, sand doesn't muck stuff up like mud and clay soils. Here I don't even have to wash my car but a few times? a summer. And it's usually to get the water drops off from parking by a sprinkler system, not because it is dirty. Maybe it is harder to keep em clean up there.

Thank you? for watching. It is incredible how easy it is at certain low traffic times to pace along this stretch of road. This pace was a good one, and yea you can hear alot going on. These newer FEC Engines are awesome and fill the frame and ears pretty full. These are the sharpest along this track and have to shoot sometimes from a little ahead or behind to keep them in frame.

That 710 really sings, doesn't it? I like how you can hear the cooling fans cycling on and off... One thing I've noticed about FEC... even at 60 MPH they don't hang on the horn for? the crossings like you'd expect... Great vid! I liked the slow-mo of the wheels and the last car going by at the end... kind of a tribute to the FEC.

Very interesting how the signal at Iris Interlocking (just? north of Hialeah Yard) was all dark. I know FEC uses cab signals, but the signal is dark at a diamond and you can still proceed? It's just weird for me, I operate on the CSX tracks that diamond crosses. We don;t use cab signals, only wayside, so we DEFINITELY need a signal to proceed there! lol

I've never heard of not being able to record the crossings, Most locomotives have their own cameras now called "loco cam" and if something happens you WANT it on? video for evidence. And all you gotta do is record the whole trip and cut the crossing out of the video IF some did actually happen.

He's not making a mockery of our republic, he's making a point about the ridiculousness of campaign finance laws, allowing elections to be bought by anybody (including corporations) willing to put up the money. Colbert is not necessarily making fun of our? Republic. He makes a point about the pitfalls and corruption of the electorial process. Every campaign has seen its share of SNL's skits. On the other hand, news networks line up pundits to stir the pot with their opinions, often misinforming the public in the process; as you called it, a brainwashing. What's the difference?
