These stoves look like a primitive form of the Russian thermal mass stove. Why would you want to have a metal combustion chamber when it is not needed? In the Russian stove, the combustion chamber is just an extension of the thermal mass. Air is drawn into? the chamber through a metal hinged door with a draft port. Air is not starved causing the fuel to burn hot and lean.

hey really thought the videos you ahve are interesting might i suggest somethign to you ? Before recording voices? have a few seconds of silence and record the background sounds, then when making the video, load it into audacity (free audio editor) grab the no voice parts of it and filter it out of the sound lines, then add them into the video again (windows movie maker is fine for that) and there you go, one clean audio where we can understand what you say =)

Great question, and was my FIRST question.. They saying is "a good hat and boots".. Meaning In other words, a cob house needs a good roof with? wide eves and the bottom of a cob wall must sit on a non-absorbent stem wall so that it cannot wick moisture up from the ground.. Thanks for the drawing of a rocket mass heater. Most videos don't ever fully explain how to construct one. They just show bits and pieces of the building process of the unit. From the drawing I see that the draw or draft of the raising hot air pulls the smoke and heat thru the system and the mass of the bench work or other? thermal mass built around the piping is used as a heat sink to produce more heat from the system before the smoke and heat exits the system.

there are several approaches. Some make a pit and empty it once a week. Some don't, and empty it just before each burn. Most people just grab? a handful of ash. Some people use a shop vac.

The idea of using inside air for your intake is great, restaurants do this with there exhaust fans. Other wise it would cost a fortune to keep heating the cold air from outside. I plan on doing that with mine because no matter how good it works when it get to be -20 outside it will not work nearly as well as taking air from the basement that is 80 degrees? warmer then outside. @baggetja1234 YES! Use Silver Tape (Nashua) for AC/Heating - you can buy it? @ HDepot cheap. Its heat resistant and glu holds like crazy. BUT: You DONT have to use cans - it's ok to buy/make 2"or3" COOPER tube/pipe and put a turbulator inside (turbulator twisted like screw piece of tnin metal like alluminium - often used in water boilers) .

Before I retired I traveled all over half the U.S. working with commercial restaurant equipment including dishwashers and espresso and coffee, tea and hot chocolate machines. Keurig is very prone to breakdown due to Indiana water if a RO system isn't used. Indiana water is the worst in the world. You can go from sulpher, or iron, or calcium in incredible amounts. You should get the advice of a softener exoert that will analyze your water, you may? need RO/Iron filters as well as a softener

Sounds like you did it all correctly. I'm not sure why the pressure dropped and the temp went up. Either way if you got 20 minutes of flushing you're probably 98% there. If your water is hard I'd suggest flushing annually? if the water is soft then you're probably good for 18 mo to 2 years between flushing. Best, Matt

Great question. I have no experience with electric tankless heaters, but they should work and flush basically the same as a gas model. What? I'm not sure about is wether they tend to scale as much as a gas model. I would expect a gas model to have a higher heat in the boiler so it might be more prone to scale than electric, but that's just a guess. Ok back to your question, did you connect the discharge on the pump to the cold inlet on the water heater? Did you clean the inlet filter? Matt

I have a Bosh electric tankless water heater model number RP27PT. I a 1/6 horsepower flotec submersible pump that I purchased at home depot. I followed every step on your video and after about 20 minutes the vinegar was getting hot and the pump was not discharging the same amount of water as it was in the begining... I don't have empirical evidence that they will last 20+ years in a coastal environment, but I can tell you that the units I've seen that are made in Japan are VERY well made. These are used extensively in Japan and they certainly have coastal environments to deal with. The oldest unit I've installed? & serviced is 7 years old. Everytime I service that unit it looks brand new. I would not hesitate to install one in your environment. Stick with the well known brands. Rinnai, Noritz, Takagi.

We need to replace our ancient standard water heater. Our 137 year-old-home is in Galveston & space is a premium. Generally it's a good thing if you're not seeing sediment come out. If you are seeing a lot or even some sediment then you need a regular annual flush. If you aren't seeing any sediment and you think your water is not very hard you might go 18 months to 2 years on the flush routine.? Matt Risinger

Oooh good question. I regularly build homes with? two units and I'll flush both then toss the vinegar. The vinegar shouldn't lose it's potency after multiple flushes, but you'd want to ensure you're not pumping particles or debris into another machine. The answer is YES, but likely not? as often. With those conditions you could do this process every 24-30 months and likely be OK. I wouldn't go much longer however as their is still the need to clean out your in-line filters and still some scale possibility. You should have 20-25+ year water heater life under these conditions. Unfortunately, that's beyond my do-it-yourself ability. You'll want to hire a plumber to add these valves? needed to flush your unit. I've found that units installed 3+ years ago didn't regularly get flush kits installed. Not sure if that was a manufacturer assuming non-hard water, or if plumbers were not being educated that they were needed. Best, Matt Risinger

The only? way to be electrocuted with 12V is to jam a pair of metal rods into your heart or the immediately adjacent flesh thereto and apply the electricity to them. If someone turns off both valves by mistake, the T&P valve fails, and the thermostat fails, the heater becomes a bomb. Water heaters explode with violent force every year here in the USA. By not having a valve on the HOT water side, the faucets become the secondary pressure relief point. WHAT STATES is it ILLEGAL!!!!! Your a handy man not a plumber!

Your saying if the t&p valve fails and the thermostat fails while having both hot and cold water valves off is a normal and almost an everyday occurrence. These are three things that have to happen in a perfect timing. You have a better shot at winning the lottery. My 50 gal water? heater is not filling with water. Pilot light still lit -- water not coming out of hot water taps throughout the entire house. When cold water taps are turned on, water comes out of faucet okay. Tested drain, hooked up hose to empty. No water in it. Water line enter into the water heater is "on" position. One story home, no frozen pipes -- live in southwest. Home warranty company doing everything they can to NOT pay for repair. Please advise if possible!! Thanks!!!!

He said "have just one control valve on the water lines going in and out of the water live" but then said dont put one on the HW side. I am a plumber an I always put a valve on both sides. because when you replace the water heater, cold side, you dont have to shut the building down, and the HW side you dont have to drain the HW lines out of the house, when you get? passed the T&P valve just open it up to get air flow.

To the tubing/snake folks. You want maximum temperature difference between the (cold) air and the (hot) cans for most efficient thermal transfer (hot to cold). What's the point of the 100th can, if it can? only add a degree or two of extra heat to air that's already been super-heated by the previous 99 cans? Best to have lots of optimum-height columns of cans. Well, that's my view, anyway. But I'd like to know what the optimum height is (I guess it's about 15 cans, max). Any ideas? Cheers.

I see people wonder about "snaking" the cans in the solar furnace.... Somethings I've learned in my air conditioning class are.... The more temp difference/the more loss there will be. A (calculated loss per ambient temperature vs. furnace temperature "heat moves to cold" and the amount of insulation in the heater will determine heat loss) You also need to know how many cfm (tons) your building requires (Manual J) :-) a small bathroom requires no less than 50 cfm :-) although.....? Think of it as a system though, the only energy going IN is from the sun over that surface area painted black. Letting the air cycle through longer will get it hotter, but you will have slower? flow so your total energy will be the same if you have good insulation like you talked about. I guess snaking some cans if you want very hot air would be good to heat water or something, so you can store the energy overnight? If he did that the cans would have heated up too much. The higher the temp of the cans and air, the more you are losing through insulation and the plexiglass. You want to get the heat out as quickly as possible to avoid losses, so a lower temperature,? but higher flow rate is actually better. Remember its about air volume and temperature, not just temp.

I checked all the floor vents in my house and the? hot air that comes out is about 130 degrees f. It seems to me that if you were to add a second intake and exhoust vent that you could double your air flow and the air temprature should still be high enough to keep you comfortable while the sun is shining. Give it some thought...

I agree with bulletproof2353, if there is more energy coming out than going in then why not set it up to power itself. You wouldn't even need to use generator, you could use the steam to drive the pump directly. Either way I think it looks like a great way to heat water and if it is only as efficient as a gas water heater? then its still good because it's instant. Maybe they should stop banging the free energy drum and just concentrate on selling it as a water heater.

this is true but with cold fusion there is still debate and the same sort of problem, but in cold fusion we are talking about much much small amouts of over unity energy, so if this thing had 70%( not sure if that was sustained, or for a brief few seconds,or split second) then it should be much much easier to measure, and if you insulate it ALOT and also maybe even install frictionless magnetic bearings, it could? even increace output more and make it even easier to measure

I believe the problem is the proof, there is no scientific explanation to back up the measurements made by the test equipment. Hence why Tom wouldn't take it seriously.? Steam is terribly inefficient, even at the peak 170% over unity i don't think it would be possible to convert at least 100% back into mechanical energy. This is only my assumption.

Just a few ideas. 1. made the baffles out of aluminum and paint them black, this will increase the area heated by the sun. 2. Recycle air from the trailer rather than heating cold air from outside. 3. If you're going to pull air from outside then you should at least filter to keep bugs and general crap from being blown into the trailer. 4. The seal between the? glass and the frame didn't look so great and the insulation of the unit looked weak.

Yeah, it works. The concept is you have a dark colored material that can? conduct heat encased in a clear enclosure, then make air blow through it. Basically this means using aluminum painted black. There is an infinite number of ways to do it. I have made a heater using aluminum cans, it works even better. There is also another more efficient design, however. I'm planning on making a huge solar heater for our house in time for next winter using the improved design, so stay tuned!

cantecleer is correct with that the fan should be on the bottom pushing the cold? air in, as hot air moves towards cold and it brings moisture with it, so the density of the air will increase automatically. For a panel as small as the one they have built, I would say the fan should move pretty slow to get best results. Otherwise increase the size of the panel, then increase the air flow.

I don't know if it is true, but I've read other people say that a fan pushing cold air into the cold inlet is more effective than pulling it from the hot outlet. Something about the density of cold air being greater than the density of warm air. I wasn't sure what the commenter meant though. Perhaps you could try a test sometimem by swapping the fan's position? and turning it around so it pushes air into the cold inlet. In any case, nice job and thanks for the upload! (^.^)

The other hole needs to be connected to the trailer or house you install this on because the air won't have a chance to be trapped inside the enclosure no greenhouse effect. Like when they tell you to not leave you dog in the the car without cracking the windows on a hot day because when you crack the windows there's no net heat build up. the pop cans grab the heat and make more mass also slows the air down when tou hook up a fan the temp will drop with just the downspouts i think it would? drop to fast but about anything will work if you get good sun my videos just show projects im working on

What is the point of installing the cans inside the downspout? What is the cans function? Is it simply to increase surface area and restrict airflow? It would be interesting to compare the BTU output, with and without the cans in the downspout. theoretically, there should be less restriction to airflow without the cans, which will lead to a? lower temperature, but this would be offset by higher air throughput. BTU readings is the only valid way to compare these systems.
