Invertorul ii luat de pe okazii, de obicei cumpar TBE. Nu sunt nimic deosebite, insa din experienta sunt mai rezistente si mai bune decat cele cu nume chiar de vapor sau no-name. Folosesc unda modificata, avand in vedere si pretul ~250 RON la 1000w fata de ~800 RON pt unul cu unda? pura. Pentru becuri si muzica merge si modificata. Doar la un model de laptop am avut probleme, insa tine mai mult de transformatorul de 2 lei al laptopului.

A car alternator output is DC since you are connecting it to a battery. With an alternator, it produces a constant charging voltage of 13,2-14V regardless of rpm ( obviously we're talking from 800rpm above ). The voltage is controlled by a regulator ( the black box with colored wires connected to it ) which constantly alters the? field current so voltage output stays the same. The speed of rotation is calculated by knowing the gear ratios and measuring wheel rpm.

This is a very good unit and idea. I have researched this extensively and it is by far the best unit i have found. The only down side is that there is no way of finding a cost/price on this unit as you must contact the company and have them come out and see if it is even viable for the water or source you plan to use to power it and they will not give you a standard price of one unit.? Other then that the unit is good and is basically common sense for energy production, research it first.

Yes you need running water for it just like any other turbine, but if you research it they will tell you that they need to calculate it and the flow is adjustable just as it is with any dam or other unit. I noticed that you used rockwool cubes, and I think it is wrong to sprout seeds in rockwool, you should sprout them in some soilless mix, (it should grow as fast) and when they´ve reached a specifik size you just remove the soil from the roots, and transplant them into a hydroponic system, the shock they get, is next to non, also there will be no salt build up, as rockwool does. rockwool retains any moisture and any? nutrients and therefore builds up the salts, wich will prove in slower growth.

Hi Pelton, Thanks for the insightful comment. Yes the end of state subsidies for Coal power and other environmentally damaging power generation technologies is a great thing. Next it would be nice to see a higher-than market price for locally produced power from renewables. Which makes sense since they support and benefit infrastructure and lower costs across the grid. Imagine a time when the Grid becomes a massive battery. Do you have links to some photos of your system? ? You also in SA?

That's really great stuff. Unfortunatly you are right about state subsaties, consumers have been getting artificaly cheap electricity for years. We could only sell the electricity from our hydro by selling it to the public electricity companies and they would only pay? for the avoided cost ie. that extra shovel of coal they didn't need to put on because of our generation. This meant we ran our hydro on very little income for about 20 years. At long last we are getting a fair price now.

freezing is not an issue if the water is flowing. It's kinda like leaving a faucet dripping on cold nights. When the turbine is not running, a valve at the dam is shut and keeps the water from filling the pipe. No water in the pipe = no freezing.? When I install the redundant controller and diversion load, the turbine will run 24/7.

I finally adjusted the field on the Harris Hydro. This gave me an additional 3 amps (150 watts x .90 = 135 watts at the cabin). I added boards to dam up the intake at the weir and the screen is totally submerged now. Pipe is stil half full. Still haven't checked the unrestricted flow. Hope to do that this weekend. Another modification I am installing this weekend is a redundant Morningstar controller and diversion load. If the existing one fails, it? will overcharge and boil the batteries.

This afternoon I will be adjusting the field on the turbine to get more power, and adding a fan to the top of the unit to dissipate heat.? A fan is suggested for any Harris Hydro application near 1KW. The field adjustment should add power because there is a lot of splash against the flexiglass in the box. There is so much splash that it blew out some of the caulk on the box. I'll also be checking the unrestricted flow on the pipe today. I'll try to post what I learn tonight.

On Saturday I changed out all 4 nozzles with larger 1/2" nozzles and saw an immediate boost. The ammeter at the turbine is showing 20 amps which translates to 1KW(Ohms Law - volts x amps = watts) at the turbine. My metering at the cabin is showing about 800 watts produce there. Not sure why there is a difference between the two since the wire connecting the two is 4/0 aluminum and losses should be minimal.? I am investigating this.

I am glad you can remove the cap. Whether Hydro or Ram pump applications, a free flowing pipe helps determine true capabilities of any setup. It would be awesome for you? to get 1kW/hr off of your system!

Engineer 775 just gave me a great idea. Since the nozzles restrict the flow, I need to bypass the nozzles to see how much unrestricted flow I can get. Why didn't I think of that? Luckily at the? end of the penstock I have a 4" threaded cap I can remove so I can see. This will tell me if the intake at the weir a bottleneck, or if it's the nozzles. I'll post my results here for anyone that wants to see.

I talked to Don Harris (Harris Hydro) today. He suggested a few modifications: 1. Based on the GPM we are getting, he thinks I should use larger ½" nozzles. I think that 3/8" nozzles are in it right now. This will increase the flow to close to 170 GPM at 70' of head and also increase the wattage. 2.? Another area I may be able to increase wattage is to adjust the field on the turbine. 3. Another is modifying the intake. I am making these changes in Saturday and will post my findings.

As long as it is running, it's kinda like leaving a faucet dripping on a really cold night to keep it from freezing. Right now it's not running? because I haven't finished the roof on the shed and it's covered with a tarp. I opened a spigot at the end of the? penstock and closed the valve at the dam. This drains all the water out so it won't freeze.
