Oh~ What a nice video! I saw some comments stating how intelligent this bird? is. But the parrot is not really "intelligent". The parrot has a good memory and can associate words said by his trainer and the words it has to say in reply. The trainer has to be careful in not saying two "command words" at once. This cute parrot would be intelligent if it could say, "I didn't understand what your command word was; so I don't know what I shoud say, so can you repeat that?~please?"~ ;-D

The only problem with HFA/autism is that it is impossible to diagnose objectively. I've known at least a couple people with almost all DSM symptoms, and have not been diagnosed with it. It's really easy to overlook, and it's just as easy to cast as a? diagnoses. Given the fact their is no prominent neurological abnormalities, I am cautious of figures that estimate more than 1% of the population as HFA/Aspergers. It's a shame that Psychological has become a liberals tool.

John, I underestimated the amount of soil, compost to add to my little 3'x3' enclosed Riverstone Genesis greenhouse-about 6" of the soils now. The greenhouse/cold frame is atop concrete. I lined the bottom with contractor plastic bags, raised it on top of an old patio table. I want to add more soil as my collards, kale, parsnips and tomatoes grow..will that be necessary or will my vegetables manage with the shorter? soil base? Thanks

A group like this probably gets everything donated, including trucking in the soil and pallets. Then, volunteers do all the work. So yeah, you can garden on concrete, just like you garden on? top of funky subsoil. But there's a lot more going into it than just putting seeds in the ground. It's great that they're giving away food, but it's not 'free' to produce - someone paid to produce it.

Also, if you're lining it with burlap anyways, couldn't you use a less expensive wire mesh, say chicken wire? You might? get some bulging out of the holes, but I can't see why that would be a problem. It also might require a little extra wood bracing to be as stable.

John, what is your opinion? of hugelkultur? I was wondering how well it would work if you just stacked a couple of pallets on top of each other with a few of the slats removed, filled in all the crevices with dirt and grew in it? I feel like it would increase the water retention capabilities while the wood as it breaks down would aerate and add nutrients to the soil. Even the nails would add iron! This would keep from having to buy anything. What's your opinion?

just like folks who heat jars of food for canning, if you bottle the wine when warm, then immediately store it in a cool place, a natural vacuum will occur. just heat the wine enuf to kill the yeast but not enuf to destroy the alcohol which you can do, at least i've heard. just pour a measured cup of wine and heat for 1:35 on high and see. i made a VERY nice grape, raspberry, apricot, peach wine this way and it was truly profound. crystal clear, ruby red, VERY numbing? wine. :)))))

i dont know what inspired me to do it, but years ago when i first tried my hand at homemade wine, to stop fermentation in it's tracks i used a 1 cup measuring cup and a microwave. on high for EXACTLY? 1min 35 secs on high i warmed the wine to kill the lil cooties that made the alcohol and saw the co2 rise to the surface at once. i bottled it and it never exploded the bottles. i guess i finished and degassed the wine at the same time. bottle the wine when it's cooler....

That's the thing... "normally social" people are able to lie, backstab, judge and so forth because they have the social skills to deceit and manipulate people. They are in fact very social. Socially inept is when you have a hard time engaging in actual conversations with people and getting across what you want to say. You feel like you are on a different planet and don't feel like you say the right things or know how to act appropriate in? social situations.
