Also, keep in mind that Northern Mali is twice the size of France! But the Mali are pretty well funded by subsidies from the US, which make up 30% of their military funding. I agree, Tuaregs should get their own state (they should have referenum). The north eastern portion of Mali and north western portion? of Niger (the area designated as Azawad) is desert lands, its barren. The Malian government should not waste time, resources and manpower on trying to keep such an unproductive, insignificant area of the country. 80% of the Malian pop live in the south. Mali as a country is poor. The Tuareg state of Azawad will be even poorer.

Tuaregs are indeed African but those yelloe-skinned ones (even if they are on the African side) clealry came from other lands. Africans do come in different colors/shades even within the same tribe. Akans are typically dark skin but there are some light skinned ones. Fulani are typically light skinned but there are some dark ones. Yes, there are mixtures however this is usually? between African ppl of different tribes not different races.
