They like to blame this disaster on human error but the truth is.....you can blame this disaster on human GREED. Gas was only about .60 - .75 cents / gallon in 1980 so? drilling in the lake was completely unnecessary. If they would have waited till gas was $4 - $6 / gallon like it is now, this problem could have been avoided because they would have been using newer technology.

Let's see, the salt mine was there 1st, 61 years before Texaco decided to start "exploratory drilling." Texaco: "This? looks like a good spot." Crew drills into mine. "Ah Boss, we gona knock off early tooday." Drilling crew hauls ass, never even bothering to notify the salt mine that they were about to get flooded. Real nice guys, those Texaco ****suckers. Guess they figured no one would notice all of the water. It was a miracle that the 55 miners did not drown. Big oil at work, again.

I'd like to comment about the 1/29/2008 'accidental' release of natural gas because of a simple power outage. If this happened with only a power outage what would happen if a serious problem would arise. AGL assured the residents of the area that our safety is their top priority. After all, aren't 'Good Neighbors' supposed to look out for each other? With neighbors like AGL less tha? 1/4 mile from me, I may as well ask Osama bin Laden to move into my spare bedroom to complete the package.

In 1980 Texaco drilled into a salt mine below Lake Peigneur, creating a huge whirlpool that emptied the lake and engulfed the drilling rig, 11 barges and a tug boat. Today we put in in Delcambre and paddled about 8 miles..luckily there were no drilling rigs in the lake!
