well... I was? the flame guy and can tell you those flames were real... all 35 feet of them... I wore flame proof suit under the designer diesel wear clothes that had been modified with the hood cut off and it was shot on a Winters day (hence the no leaves on trees) and if you look you can see my breath in clip it was a cold night...in February in England 2010... the rest you will have to guess but the? mythbusters guys demonstrate how dangerous this was in their recreation of the scene.

it's gotta be CGI. The trees on one side are bare, but the others are green. And the flame is a little too 'gravity defying' for it to be really shooting at the guy, unless they took two different shots and composited? them on top of each other. Either way, they're both CGI methods.

I just started watching this show, I'm midway through season 2 and I really empathize with her character. I really liked Don at first and feel bad for his character but? every time he treats her like a dick I hate him. Every time he cheats I feel bad for her. I think the writers agree with you and not with me. I still think that this simple interpretation is the less interesting one, but it seems to be what they intended. At least from the commentary on the DVD. I will? disagree on her happiness, though. She is miserable. Lastly, I will say that as much as I love pets, the neighbor's threat was understandable. The Drapers were careless with their dog and the dog attacked his bird. I don't think he is a real bad guy.

Betty isn't freeing the birds because she herself is not free. She is clearly happy at the? end of this episode as told by her honestly gleeful facial expressions and body language. She shoots at the birds to get back at the neighbor because he threatened their dog and made the children upset. Betty is the woman of the house at this moment in the story. Her shooting at the birds with no regard for the neighbor is more a of "if you mess with my family, you have to answer to me" kind of thing.

I've thought a lot about this scene, and I? don't think Betty is trying to free the birds because she's trapped and doesn't want them to be. I think she feels as if she's lost control of most of her life, but she can take control of the situation with the neighbor who threatened the kids' dog, so she does. It's really one of the few times you see Betty doing right by her kids.
