I would prefer either a longer video or one that speaks in more concise terms. A lot of times I feel as if he's going to? do the left brain part and articulate whatever my right brain has been concerned with but he usually touches on something and lets it go quickly. A lot of repetition, synonyms and antonyms used but little elaboration is actually made on many points. Quite disappointing but potentially insightful nonetheless.

I find it sad that you would chastise Iain for sharing his logical thoughts but nothing is said about mainstream sellouts who produce dumbed down crap. This, so far, is the most balanced and well-argued video of all the RSA videos. In quite a few of them, despite making excellent points or delivering a potent and powerful message, the speaker would have a tendency to make misleading/false over-generalizations. Who has alot of money want freedom, because money give you power? and financial security...tend to avoid building stress from work because there is no further reward. Interesting concept, that of purpose-maximisation. In these years where we know that the universe is made out of cells and atoms and we know why things happen and we know that time WILL go on, people are asking themselves what is their purpose in this reality? Some find? the answers within religion; to be rewarded after death, others instead try to make a difference in the world and do things that will benefit others in the future. I believe undeveloped are undeveloped because they haven't got grip on free trade and rule of law. Even China could do much better with some human rights and less corruption. It is the whole package - free trade and people. You cut one you cut both resulting in lesser prosperity. However there will always be some realms poorer than others. Yeah, the known Universe will end one day. Not sure what you mean by water. Resources are finite, that's right. However invention of new ones is best done under capitalism. Once the oil gets too expensive, investment will go elsewhere - it already started. How was this test done exactly? They reward the? high performance with most money, yet ones who got most money had the lowest performance. That cant be technically possible. If you'd just said "higher stakes => more stress" "too much stress => bad performance" It wouldnt have been so suprising. In that light the conclusions are a bit radical. I don't think it is a real disorder as in the old days, boys were hyperactive, but noone drugged them, Thank God. If you read, The Minds of Boys by Michael Gurian, you may see the real motivations behind? ADHD diagnosis. And, boys are more active and need to move around in the classroom. They are being penalized for being boys.

I sort of agree with you. ADHD is a real desease, it's a chemical problem in the brain which is visable with a brainscan. I do agree with you however that many many cases of people diagnosed? with ADHD, don't have ADHD. It's handy if someone has ADHD, because parents and kids now have an excuse for not having good grades are good bahaviour. But don't mistake these cases with it not being a desease.

I totally agree with the narrator; I have heard before that ADHD is a made up disease; I knew a little boy who was told he had it and took a drug for it like Ritalin. When I saw him many years later as a young man in his late teens, he seemed to have lost some of his intelligence. I was so? sad for him that his mother allowed him to be drugged in this way to make him behave in elementary school.

On the ADHD discussion: I really agree on the problem resulting from the distance between stimulating non-schoolar activities (video games, internet, etc) and traditional lesson. BUT, even uploading class methods, there's an imperative that cannot be? left away: learning things takes lots of work. Hard work. The advanced technologies develop advanced fun stuff that puts some brains to work but mostly, I think, they rest upon the sensitive stimulation and not intellectual effort. (lack of space)

True, there's misdiagnosis out there too (I meant to add that along with the over-prescribing and black market medication abuse points). However, my husband and brother would have benefited tremendously had they been diagnosed as children and? not just as adults. And to make a blanket statement that ADHD meds turn people into zombies is just irresponsible and wrong. It tough enough choosing to take that road without being pressured with misinformation like this.

He didn't call ADHD a myth. He called? ADHD being an epidemic a myth, which I agree on. I do believe in ADHD, and you make a valid point, but it's also important to accept the fact that ADHD has been used as an excuse. In fact, I was almost diagnosed with ADHD when I was a kid, when the real issue was that I wasn't being challenged enough at school because I was gifted, and that I was just getting bored (Not bragging). We both agree, we're just emphasizing on different parts of the argument. :P

There are so many people out there who don't even believe ADHD is a real thing and Sir Ken perpetuates that myth. He doesn't understand that ADHD is a real affliction in most cases and that treatment (including medication) can be a positive life-changer. It should not make "zombies" out of people if prescribed correctly, quite the opposite. The media is keen to jump on cases where ADHD medication has been misused, either over-prescribed, or sold on the black market to college? students to get better results on their papers or tests.

I had an epiphany similar to this a few years ago while traveling in Italy. While walking the streets in Florence, I kept seeing banners that said, "Pace" (pronounced pah-che) meaning peace,? in English. Reflecting on its meaning, I thought of the same word in the context of the English language. In English, "pace" refers to rhythm or some function of time. I definitely agree with you here; however,? would you agree that it takes a bit of both (present action, future goalmaking; and while we're at it, understanding from past experience) to be a successful innovator? I wouldn't assign the label of innovator to be exclusive to either. Take the Big Names in science and the arts,? for instance: Opened up whole new fields, changed the way we live, usually for the better. I don't think they did that as a means to some future goal. Hell, most of them /couldn't even imagine/ where their work would lead. No, they /couldn't help/ making those leaps and bounds, it was their nature. And crucially, /they were allowed to chase their dreams/.

What I mean by 'being direct' is not to be rude but to lessen miscommunication/misunderstandings. E.g. Someone I care about is avoiding me lately. It's easy to assume that it's something I did, but I don't know. Most people won't come right out and ask 'hey, is it me?' I agree in a greater since of unity, but I think the individual is still very important.? Take for instance the Haiti example, yes if you look at it on a one-dimensional level, people acting in self interest would not give toward Haitian relief. However, it is very possible for humans to be pleasure-seeking, utilitarian, and directed by self interest but still follow these principles of empathy. Empathy gives us pleasure when we give. We can be charitable for completely selfish reasons.
