With shaving there's usually 3 main directions used. With the grain... as he mostly showed in this video. Across the grain, and against the grain. Each in the above said order, will get you to? a closer shave. However, I shave with a straight razor (cut throat) now and nothing in my opinion is better than that. You're probably getting cut for one or more of several reasons. Not enough beard prep. Too dull a razor, or you're just putting too much pressure.

You will get a far better shave AFTER? your shower, the steam and heat will open your skin pores, the water will soften your beard and cause the hair folicles to extend.
