Everyone has their own opinions. The CBR, since it'll be the smoothest ride overall. The GSXR has good high end power; ZX6r good mid to high, the R6 among the group of "6's" is one of the most popular these days it seems though. The CBR and R6 i'd say are the best start bikes. Breaking into the? Kawasaki vs Suzuki war can wait until you're ready for 1000+ CC's

Dude, don't start on a 600. I thought the same. Thought I'd be sensible and that I could just learn at my own pace. So I bought a CBR600 and now I'm selling it to get a 250. You have no idea how powerful a 600 is. If you don't take time to learn? the basics, the 600 is going to bite you hard. I know a 250 is not as cool as a 600 but you won't look cool flying off the road or going into a wall because you can't control the power of the 600..

@FFJNVT Don't let them put fear into you. You will? think the 600 is too weak in about a month of riding. People saying to start smaller are basically saying you're not smart enough to know when you're giving too much throttle. Can you control your wrist? My first bike was a brand new Gsxr-750 and I immediatley had the gearing done so it would be even faster.

You arent ready for a 600 4cylinder mature or not. Its too much bike for you and the fact that you are starting motorcycling later makes it even worse. Start with less powerful bike like a er6n, sv650, gsx600f, or a fz6r.? These will be far better bikes to learn on.

my first bike was a 07 yamaha r6 and although some peaple might say it has a sinsitive throttle i never had any issues with it and got used to it within the first hour of riding i put 7k on it without dropping or wrecking it, have since moved up to a liter bike put close to 5k on it? still ride safe and accident free, thank god:) just my 2cents everybody has a diffrent opinion on this subject so i would just do as much research as possible on whichever bike you choose to buy, good luck!

I'm going to apologize in advance for this common question.? Although it's common my situation is different. I'm wondering if the CBR600, GSXR600, ZX6R, Daytona 675, and R6 are created equal or is there one bike better than the other for my first bike. I'm 6'2 220lbs and 26 years old. 1000 cc for the street is better because of the? torque... You don't have to shift up and down all day long to stay in the usable powerband unlike on a 600cc. If you ride with a passenger it's even more important... Nobody really needs 170 + hp, but 100+ Nm at 8000 is better than 60 Nm at 11000...

I think there are some valid points made by both camps, to start or not to start out on an open class sport bike. I do believe however that starting on an open class sport bike will increase your chances of having an off, its not a sure bet. Everybody? is well served if they respect the abilities of whatever they ride. I started on a Kawasaki ZX 7R and went to a Honda 929 with no offs.

Its called counter steering. When u turn? the bars to one side, u break the bikes balance, making it lean to the opposite side. After that, to hold your angle during the corner, u have to steer to the other side (point the wheel to the corner) and control your throttle. If you want to tight your turn, u have to steer to the outside of i, and vice-versa. Remembering that... all these movements are very delicated. In the video they are exagerated, A LOT.

also, its hilarious reading about what people have to say about counter steering as if its some kind of evolution? or secret knowledge, go 55 mph on your r-1 and try to go left by pointing the front wheel to the left.. hilarious, theres always a line between speed and normal steering, at 5mph you cannot countersteer and go the direction you want, at a nano second your brain deciphers that, pay attention, switch directions at 5mph and you will realize theres a lot going on you take for granted

im not sure if theres a video from that guy, but check out "a twist of the wrist 2" from keith code. Its very useful and youll learn a lot. A good way to help notice countersteer, is by riding without your left hand. When safe to do so, try turning your bike in either direction using only one hand, and youll notice that your pushing? the opposite way. This helped me understand countersteering a bit more.

hmm... I respect all riders as people. If they hate my bike because its a "rice burner" then thats their choice. I ride for MY enjoyment not an image. If I were to go on long? rides, I still wouldn't buy a harley because I think the v twin honda sports touring bikes offer the same comfort that a harley does with better performance and handling. But I respect harley riders as well. Hell I'd ride enduro's if I had the time to make one extremely fast, because I ride for my enjoyment, not image.

I don't know where you are from but where I'm from you have 1 sport bike rider in 50 wearing their pretty little racing outfits in warm weather. Most wear blue jeans and tshirts the same as the harley riders and the metric bike cruiser riders. Most Harley riders wear thier leather not for protection but for warmth in cool to cold weather and will not wear leather during the summer because they don't intend on doing something stupid to need the protection.
