Not a fantasy sword. It armed German mercenaries called landskechts during the Renaissance. The idea was to chop up pike shafts; the swiss pikeman had revolutionized warfare and now everybody had a pike. Problem with that was that once the lines collided, the long pikes became intertwined, pushing became useless and a stalemate developed. The guy with the great sword's job? was to chop his way through the pike shafts and "unjam" the line.

An interesting video and although a? very nice looking reproduction sword the narrator comments about the manufacturing are not correct. The originals were not "carved" out of a piece of metal by a blacksmith. They were forged together from several pieces of metal to give the characteristics necessary to keep the blades from breaking in combat.

Instead of attacking you, I'd rather give you some information :-) The swords produced? the way it's prestented might seems shitty, but actually these days you can buy already forged steel, so it doesn't need to be forged again, thanks to what the shaping and polishing is enough to make it really solid. More precise forging was needed in old days, because steel was uneven and while hammered blacksmiths were able to get evenly carboned (same hardness along whole blade) sword.

There was no reason to sharpen the sword in full lengh.You needed only 1/3 of the blade sharp witch has most momentum for cutting.So grappin a not sharp part of the sword to halfsword is nothing spetial. I have a german longsword 2kg 1,4 m its not sharpened cause of sparing reasons, but that sword can do some? serious dmg. And sekond the sharper the sword the easyer it will have its edge damaged. I've seen frogs that put the sword vertical, angled back, or some slung low and angled like a rapier. Not to cite to fiction but Game of Thrones has about every method in use by one character or another, many have them with the pommel? almost armpit high. If you are asking that question or even liking it, you obviously have either never seen Final Fantasy VII or never bothered to relate the fact that, with the millions fans out there, this sword could be something like a collector's item for people who really like the? game. Never mind being able to lift the thing.
