I? like my Solo HD's better because, 1. Control Talk 2. The M50 coil is too long 3. Rap/Hip-Hop I do really like the M50's and they are much more balanced than the Solos in most genres of music but when you listen to Hip-Hop there is no question. The Solos just have so much energy with the bass that they are so much more fun to listen to. So if you are into Hip-Hop buy the Solos! If not, buy the M50's because they are very balanced and accurate.

It's not the ideal mic for that, no. You really can't scream into this mic. It does not handle loud noises well. It's good for podcasting as you can tell from this review but try to use it for loud vocals in music and it will fail. I know because I already tried. You are going to want to save your money for something better. I've heard the shure sm7b is good for metal vocals. But you will have to? spend more money and it is not a usb mic, it requires lots of gain.

I have the exact same microphone, however when i record with my computer, the audio is really soft. I have already? maxed out all my computer setting and when I increase the volume of the recording in post-production, the grain increases by alot. Is there anyway i can solve this problem?

True, but AD700? is not accurate. It actually has far less bass than flat or neutral would be considered. Really good headphones can provide lots of bass when needed, but its always controlled and clean, never affects other frequencies. AD900 is closer to that, AD700 isn't, it simply has rolled off lows.

So, great review. I just ordered my ATH-M50 today and have some questions. 1st, I'll use them mainly for casual use, how are they on that? 2nd, I have an Ipod nano 4th gen, but no amp. Will that lower the sound quality? And last but not least, I will use these for traveling. I'm actually leaving for Amsterdam in a week, and I hope to use these in the airport and in the plane. Really like your review here - thank you. According to my research, these Audio-Technica ATH-A700's will use up to 64 ohms impedance to drive them; I imagine that while on-board audio will work, to really get the most out of a set of this type of headphone, you should drive them properly (ASUS Xonar Essence, for? ex). Also, several videos indicate headphones, like these, sound much better after they are burned in for 16-24 hours. I am buying these, thanks again!

The reason why they have that "garbage bag" material on ear pads is because the material used on ear pads actually has drastic effect on how the headphones sound and how well they insulate outside noise. These are closed headphones for a reason. They're made for studios, where you need complete silence. ? This leatherette material makes the bass more controlled and punchy and insulates outside noise better, while cloth material would make bass sound more loose and would not insulate noise.

Not necessarily. The AT2020 gives a rich, yet possibly unclear or slightly muddy, while the C03U provides a clearer, more defined, but empty sound, with less bass. For what SoldierKnowsBest does, it's better for him. Now, for something like game commentaries, where clarity isn't always above natural and? deep sounds, the AT2020 provides a better quality.

hey. great review. i'm looking to get a mic to do some game commentating, so i recently purchased the yeti. i like the sound and the look of it, but i have a slight issue with its sensitivity. it picks up my mouse clicks rather too well, so when i playback the video, my commentary is basically overpowered? by click click click click. judging from your video, it seems at2020 has quite a wide pick up range. would i run into the same problem with the at2020 on my desk?

It really depends on what you're looking for. The AT2020 provides? rich deep sound for things like a video commentator but it isn't necessarily the clearest for something like what SKB is doing. The Samson has clearer but more hollow sound thus resulting in an ok mic for commentators but a great one for this purpose here.

I've had my pair of Ath-m50s's for a couple days now, and I got to say they definitely lived up to my expectations. They look better in person then in videos. They sound fantastic. I'm a big basshead, and I was worried that there may not be enough bass, but these pair of heaphones really are true to the track. When you want to hear to bass, you hear it. Over all they are ridiculously comfortable,? fantastic quality music in general, and in my opinion, amazing build look. Very sexy I recommend ;)

These are loud. Even with an ipod because they are easy to drive. If you get the D5000 which i don't recommend for average home use or out? side use, you will find the sound not as loud because it requires more power to drive the headphones. D5000's sound isn't as flat as this one too. If anything i recommend these or the D2000.

Also if the sound is funky or is giving you a headache, then it may? also be. In my experience, fake headphones gives you really bad headaches because the sound sounds confused.

after returning my Solo HDs for these i will say that: The m50's are definitely better for the price.? However, i would not say the solo HDs were bad by any means. The m50s leak sound a lot more than the HDs. Sound: i am by no means an audiofile but id say the sound is better on the m50's but not by much. ? the m50's still have a lot of bass, but not as much as the HDs. Overall you really can't go wrong with either pair if you ask me. they are both pretty good but i'd go for the cheaper m50

I should add, if you plan on listening on the go and listening at home, these will be great. But, if you only plan to listen at home, you might want to get open back headphones instead. Open backs provide a better soundstage. If you don't know the difference between open back and closed back, closed backs are when the back of the ear cup is closed. Open back is when it's open. This means lots of sound is leaked out, which is bad for listening on the go, but gives a more? natural sound.

I have to disagree. Beats are? ugly and overrated. Why would you want a massive B on the side of your headphones, it looks horrible. Also, have you even tried the M50s? They have a far superior sound quality. The studios have a 20 - 20,000Hz frequency response. The M50s have 15 - 28,000Hz Unless you're retarded (which I'm assuming you are) the M50s are better. By a lot actually considering the price difference.

Beats in general are shit. Half of the price is probably because they are branded. So, that brings the cost up to £64.50. Which, in my opinion, is how much they should cost (maybe a little bit cheaper). They are really poor? quality, and overpriced like hell. I'd get the Audio-Technica ATH-M50s if you are looking for another pair of headphones. They are really good. You do not need headphones more expensive than this unless you're in a professional recording studio.

Don't use a protractor with a Technics turntables. It's not that it's going to give you a "wrong"? alignment but it will be different from what the arm is engineered to do. Spend $5 and get a Technics Overhang Gauge and it will make rthe process so simple it will take about 30 seconds. :) JC

Hi JC !, after a few months I upgraded from a pickering V-15 to the AT 120E, you recommended both carts, But setting up the 120E like you said ( around 1.7g vtf , 1.7g antiskate and using a pro-ject protractor ) sounds AMAZING. Thanks... The 120 has better stereo and more precise tracking but the 5625 is a very nice sounding cart. You won't be disappointed, especially for the price. I am using a Technics SL-q300 these days with a? AT92E cart but I also have the AT120E going on the GLi, as well. I have more 45's than LP's right now. Don't mess with 78's at all... :) JC

Monday, I got my Audio-Technica AT120E in the mail, and? after going through hell putting it on (I even broke a wire in the process, and it was my first time doing it), I found the results to be spectacular! I used to have a cheap Audio-Technica AT-3400 that splattered at the drop of a hat. The 120-E was bright, but if it ever splattered, it was slight. It's also very articulate and dynamic. I put to the test with some Supertramp and The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and it blew me away!

Wow! I'm glad to hear that worked out so well. I have not heard the 120E and 440mla head to? head but it makes sense that the milder stylus shape would be a bit quieter on some records. If AT ever would come up with a light tracking conical for this body style, I would be the first to buy one. I have had the same results with old jukebox 45's when they are played with a conical compared to a tight elliptical. The conical is always quieter and less distorted, at least to my ears. :) JC

Hi, JC, I promised I'd keep you posted, so here I am. You might remember some 5 months ago I told you about a right channel crackle issue on some records with my 440MLa. Last week I? finally received my new 120E. Viva! Those problematic records sound crystal clear with this cart. Granted, the 120 doesn't sound as detailed as the 440, but the tradeoff is absolutely NO surface noise on either channel. I can't describe how happy this makes me! Your review has been of great help. I finally figured out how to get my YETI? condenser mic working with my iPad again. Without external power ! ( since the 4.2 iPad update it hasn't been possible ) Just search for " iPad & Yeti together again " video . Now I can do voiceovers on the go !

The M97E has a smoother sound but your chances of getting one that isn't defective out of the box in some way is very slim, since they are made in Mexico. I went through 3 without getting one with? an not-bent stylus. These AT95e's are a little on the brighter side of the spectrum, but break in nicely, and are made in Japan while selling for less money.

I just got one of these cartridges for my Technics SL-D202, which has a medium to high mass s-shaped tonearm. The sound is quite good for the price I paid, which was only $37.50. I hear? there are upgrades available but frankly, the sound is quite good with the stock stylus. The quality on mine is very nice, straight stylus and cantilever. Alignment is a bitch, but once you get it there, the sound will amaze you. This is a really great stop-gap cartridge for someone? saving up for a killer MC.

This is an awesome cartrigde. Got it for 18? new in bulk package. I also had the AT-91, basic cartrigde that retails for same price,? the 95E is better. Cleaner, softer, balanced, very nice. Going to but another 95E to replace it.

Lastly, I bought a vintage Technics SL-B2 turntable for about 30$. It was manufactured in 1980 and when I bought it,? there were no more belt and no more needle (on a Shure M70B). Yesterday, I bought a brand new belt manufactured by Panasonic/Technics for 10$. Last sunday, I purchased online the Audio-Technica AT95e brand new cartridge instead of changing the Shure needle. I wonder if I should hear a difference between both cartridges.

@BadEditPro I thought exactly the same thing, but it was the only half inch mount cart I had with a usable stylus. So on it went. Keep in mind this isn't your normal plastic scary changer, it's got adjustable tracking force both coarse (back of the arm) and fine (sliding weight on the arm itself) adjustments and anti skate and a nice silicone damped set down and possibly the nicest built arm I've ever seen on a changer. the bic 940 and 980 were even more amazing, the? 920 is the "cheap" model!
