It's true that we should not conflate homosexuality with a lack of conformity to gender. That said, though, we also need to realize that it doesn't matter whether or not he is gay. It's not an insult to say someone is? or appears to be gay.

Of course I did see him? for the first time at some point (when I was quite young and probably would've been more likely to make judgments based on appearance) and even then I didn't assume he was gay because I listened to the part of his routine when he explained the difference between his sexuality and his dress sense. Even putting that aside, nothing in his mannerisms would lead me to me to believe he was gay, all I see is a slightly eccentric and individual manner of styling.
