This song is so sad. It's just presented like a kids story but it's of course about growing up and forgetting the joys of childhood,? about friends with diverging interests drifting apart, and/or losing someone close to you and losing your purpose in life without them. It almost seems strange that they're singing the final chorus in a joyous tone.

we were still kids sleeping in a tent out in Dave and Don's orchard. Good kids, innocent, having no knowlege of drugs and all of that stull. I remember listenting to this radio. Those were the days when people were good, we? didn't have to worry about crime and perverts. It was the early sixties but it seems like so long ago. Their orchard was destroyed to build houses on.
