"Do not" is two words. "Don't" is a single word. It's a contraction, meaning a shortened version of two seperate words. The apostrophe does not mean the "do" and the "nt" are individual from each other in context. "I'm a grammar Nazi, yet I can't count" = eight words, not ten. Unless it's "I? am a grammar Nazi,? yet I can not count" then it is ten words. And yes, "I" and "a" count as single letter words.
